We need help!!!! Arrange your kids play dates and come and join us. We desperately need (wo)manpower to dig, do carpentry work,do some coffees etc. As we have no money available we need donations etc. So far only The Village Trading Store has pledged its support. Come on Acton, show a bit of community spirit!!! For those not knowing what it is all about, below the details again: Derwentwater Primary School is a 740+ pupil state primary in Acton. However despite having the least amount of playground space per pupil in the area, Ealing Council is still looking at expanding the school with a further 200 pupils. Over ten years ago, parents created and paid for a Global Garden, which has been enjoyed by thousands of children over the years, many of whom are housed in crowded accommodation without gardens. It is now at the end of its natural life and no longer complies with health and safety regulations. It needs a serious amount of work to ensure that future generations of Derwentwater children have the opportunity to play, to go green, to go eco and get their hands dirty! A group of parents have taken the initiative to redevelop the gardens and it is our mission to provide every Derwentwater child with some experience of nature and the art of growing plants and produce. Plans so far include: an exotic banana plantation, a Dutch bulb field and annual flower bed, a Mediterranean very smelly herb garden, a copped willow hedge, an English mini orchard, raised beds to cultivate vegetables and salads, a wet area, a three part composter, insect log piles, a wormery, bird boxes, feeders, some lovely artwork etc. etc.Even with no budget whatsoever, this is an exciting project, as any efforts will directly benefit thousands of present and future Derwentwater pupils. In order for this project to succeed, we need help with companies donating materials. We desperately need gardening tools, a sturdy small shed, Astroturf (most hard wearing quality), lots of compost (split bags are fine), bird boxes, 10 climbing plants, lots of smelly herb plants, about 6 (fruit) trees (semi dwarf m26), exterior wall paint, fish, blood and bone meal, nice paving stones, good quality railway sleepers, a skip etc. In fact, any donation is gratefully received and will be mentioned on the Derwentwater School Association website. Works are planned to start at 10.00 Saturday 12th November 2011 .If you are able to help please contact me at ireenesmann@talktalk.net (020 8992 8655 / 07740 - 121 077) or Sam Perkins at perkssl@aol.comThanking you for your kind cooperation on behalf of Derwentwater parents and pupils Ireen EsmannPs. If you would like to sponsor a whole section of the garden e.g. “The XX Astroturf Lawn” or “The X.X.
