Friars Green CPZ

Despite the majority of messages on the forum, I would like to say that for some of us the introduction of the CPZ on the west side of Horn Lane will be a very sad day.   One of the last free areas of Acton will be lost forever and we will all end up paying ever-increasing amounts to the council to park in the roads will live in.   For all that commuters are vilified - they are people earning a living.   My road was empty most of the day and if people wanted to take my place whilst I was at work, that was fine with me.   I have parking provided at my workplace, but if I had to pay for parking it would cost me 20p for every 6 minutes.  No longer can I say to friends and family, come and visit, you can park outside no problem . . . what a sad, sad, day. Ealing council must be rubbing their hands together at the income it will bring them, no wonder Bassam is pleased.

Well, the commuters will have to go elsewhere. The roads belong to us not the free loaders who think they can park in our roads while they go on holiday, taking up our spaces because they don't want to pay the congestion charge and, preventing the disabled, mothers with heavy shopping, babes in arms and, residents from the convenience of parking outside their own or close to their own front door.If you had to endure the displacement during the day, I am sure you would have a different opinion.The introduction of the west side zone would also stop the dumping of clapped out bangers and tax dodgers,Creswick Rd being the favourite place.  What is £40 for a working person who drives to work and, could not give a toss about their neighbours who have to suffer?Remember if the council increase the charge excessively, we can always boot them out at the next election.  You seen to have forgotten that the west side was going to be done, before the council made such a dogs dinner of the whole issue,in that they only did half the job and, the expense of another consultation.Who lives in our roads in Acton, the commuters or the residents?

PSIf you live in Essex Rd, I can assure you that the road was not empty Monday to Friday.  The same applies to Julian Ave, Hereford Rd,Creswick Rd and, Shalimar Gdns.Parking restrictions do not apply on Saturday and Sunday,so you can have visitors.

I too have some sympathy with people who are parking on these roads.  There is simply inadequate car parks in Acton generally and I think this should seriously be looked at before penalising people to park outside their own property.It was a very reluctant yes from me.

...well this forum knows my views already and I'm in firm agreement with Jane and Ana.Plainly put, the council are trading off the sweat of the working man/woman in order to make a fast buck - no two ways about it. Abandoned cars are fine as the owners can't really be traced expediently. But the law abiding driver trying to make a living either risks being fined, towed or forced to pay a levy to the council. Nice.They'd prefer to have the streets barren of legitimately parked cars while the owners try to make a living in these straightened times to appease the largely petty intolerance of a few. It would be more easier to swallow if they just said 'we just want your money' rather than try to dress it up as some concern for parking and green issues.

They didn't bring in the CPZ when they were supposed to, so money was not the motivation. And to say they are appeasing the few is disproved by the overwhelming majority in favour of a CPZ.Why should commuters and others take priority over those of us that live here and can't park near our homes. Not a problem for you I understand as you have your own parking.

No-one's legally entitled to park outside their home - that's the first thing.The second thing is commuters aren't asking for priority they're simply wanting to park their cars in an empty space before their onward journeys to make a living. That space doesn't belong to you because it's outside of your house. And last but not least - this cpz nonsense not only affects where one lives but where one might need to visit within the 'forbidden zone'. So it affect us all in different ways.There is no 'overwhelming majority' in the grand scheme of things, just an overwhelming majority with weak tolerance of their fellow man's parking needs.I'm sorry but it does not please me that parking spaces simply languish empty hour after hour at the behest of those that just don't want others parking on their road. Ridiculous.

Has Halloween come early?  If I park up your off road drive, you won't like it.  Just another cheapskate jumping on the bandwagonTwo abandoned UN-TAXED vehicles parked on Creswick Rd, stopping two commuters parking.  An untaxed vehicle on the road is illegal (one of them has been untaxed since June,) maybe you would like to save us money and pay for their removal yourself.Anyway, The keyboard is mightier than the Quill.Another point.  Looking at the plans for the redevelopment of Acton, it seems that the council are giving priority to cyclists, by the amount of cycle bays/lanes they want to introduce, would that suggest that the council are anti car/commuter.  On your bike.

I'm not referring to illegal abandoned untaxed cars - law abiding commuters don't come into that category. If cars fitting that description are left - heaven forfend - on creswick road illegally, they should be crushed on sight as far as I'm concerned.You can park when my cars not parked there - why should I care, I won't dobb you in! It should be about reciprocity.Never mind halloween there's some pantomime villains up in here I tell ya!!

TYou miss the point I think. No one minds people parking when they are not there. I think you would change your mind if they were parked in your space every day when you returned home, so that you had to park streets away.

It's not about the right to park directly outside your house, it's about the right to park somewhere on your own road which before the CPZ was impossible in a lot of streets in the zone.Where do you live?  I might take advantage of your kind offer of free parking!  :-)

re. non payment of road tax / abandoned vehiclescan I suggest this option ....dont know how effective it would be .... Dear Ms Howard, since you don't know me at all and we've never, to my knowledge, met.  I think your condemnation that I 'don't give a toss about my neighbours' and taking my name in vain are rather extreme.  I'm guessing that judging by the amount of time you spend walking the streets, examining every vehicle means you are  . . . a traffic warden???
