It's only two weeks until the Acton Christmas Fair on Saturday, 10 December, 11am-4pm, on The Mount in front of Morrison's. Hope you've all seen the banners around Acton - the one hanging on the awful green kiosk is particularly wonderful: it was made by the kids at APPLE, the children and young people's charity in Acton Park. And, from Monday, do try to have a look at the small billboard in Horn Lane right next to Acton Main Line station - the company that owns it is giving us two weeks' rental for free!Traders are still signing up for the fair, but so far the things that will be sold in the two large marquees that will be appearing on The Mount include:* candles* stained glass (including terrific tree decorations - I've already bought one!)* vintage goods* paintings* beautiful wooden-turned goods - e.g. bowls, fruit, candle holders, mushrooms, coasters* bags* organic wheat pillows* small tapestries* Christmas baubles, stars and wreaths* ethnic embroidered bags and purses, jewellery and silk scarves* jams, Christmas pickles and chutneys* cupcakes and other delicious goodies.The kids at APPLE will also be selling cakes and biscuits and running a children's activity. The Churchfield Community Association will be having its usual stall of good bric-a-brac and second-hand costume jewellery, plus a fab tombola. Blue Cross will be trying to rehouse all Acton's homeless dolls In addition, the Acton History Group, as well as offering an 'Acton Treasure Hunt' for kids, will have 'Guess the weight of the cake' (plus samples of an identical one to eat). Members will be kitted out in Victorian cook costume to advertise their cookbook, full of vintage Acton recipes, which will be available to buy.Finally, there will be lots of children's activities in St Mary's church hall, along with Santa in his grotto, giving free presents for children between the ages of 3 and 8 (to be confirmed). And we'll have music throughout the day from local choirs and individuals.Hope you'll come and make this a great start for Christmas and a new Acton Market!
