Accident and Emergency services in Acton part-closure

The Central Middlesex Hospital has announced that it is closing its overnight A and E service.Full reporthttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-15730056This means that anyone falling off their bike in Acton after 7pm will have to travel to Northwick Park (..er ...... thats in Harrow ...)for assistance.  Other alternatives might be the Chelsea and Westminster or St Mary's in PaddingtonThe night-time closure comes amid discussion about whether to close A and E services at Ealing Hospital and Central Middlesex permanently and consolidate all services at Northwick Park.This would mean that a large swathe of densely populated West London would lose a local A and E service.Am I the only one wondering whether this is a good idea?

As someone with experience of having a family member in and out of Northwick Park over many months I would go a long way to avoid using it.  Also it can be a very long journey to get there in peak traffic times.

Does the Hammersmith Hospital in East Acton still have an A&E? May be closer.

Not at night Tony. This also is now only open during the day.The next option is Charing Cross from what I can see.This is all very worrying.

In reality I suppose it would be quicker to call out an ambulance rather than travel to the nearest hospital.

Interestingly, the last time we had an emergency which required an ambulance to come, we were asked by the crew which London hospital we wanted to go to.

There's also Ealing Hospital, but I wouldn't wish that place on my worst enemy.  I thought that before he got elected PM, Dave said he wouldn't be reducing any frontline care.  Or did I imagine that?

For those of you with children, the children's A&E at Central Middlesex has already closed, they no longer accept anyone under 16 as we discovered by accident a few weeks ago!The ambulance gave us the choice of going to Ealing hospital or St Marys Paddington. We went to Paddington as the ambulance staff said you tend to be seen quicker there.

On my one visit to this hospital with a broken wrist, I was surrounded by people with very minor injuries which could have been dealt with adequately at home by themselves.I am told that those who are not registered with a doctor, and therefore in all probability do not have a National Insurance number use the A and E in order to obtain free treatment.Perhaps it is time for:  no National Insurance number to equal no treatment.

Thought hospitals were supposed to check on immigration status or rights except for really serious pressing health issues, but they probably don't have time.

Ealing A&E (children's) were superb with my then 1.5 yr old nephew. He was kept in for 3 days and given really good care and attention. I appreciate Ealing doesn't have the best reputation though...
