Fly tipping in East Acton

Our little estate just off Ashfield Road is blighted by fly tipping, on Saturday we had people of european gypsie origin,going through our commercial waste bins so I asked them to leave and said it was private propery, yesterday I had a man in a white van disposing of his building rubble in our bins, I chased him off, today in the space of 15 minutes someone had dumped a big mattress. In the past 3 months we have had stuff(sofas, beds, cookers, fridges etc)either on the estate or just outside it, has anyone else experienced this??

Diana,Perhapps you could ask Ealing Council to provide the area with a camera to catch those responsible.I remember when we had similar problems in Horn Lane the previous administration was going to install a camera where the problem was really bad, sadly this did not happen when the administration changed over.I do report any incidents of flytipping to Streetwatchers but you could also go on to fixmystreet.com.Hope this helps.

Jean, Diana lives on a privately owned estate where the residents own the freehold so I do not think the council will be responsible. Diana sorry not to have any positive advice, it is a national problem, there is a day time TV programme on at the moment about fly tipping...'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' on BBC1

The proof they need to prosecute is a photo. if you happen to spot it happening.

Laminated signs saying "no fly-tipping" are a good deterrent and shows someone cares and is watching.  You could ask your Envirocrime Officer to put up Council signs to the same wording (I think Maurice got promoted and has moved on).  Being a Streetwatcher gives you access to fly-tipping stickers (my favourite) and you can then plaster the offending tip with them.Good luck.  We've seen a huge reduction in fly-tipping in our street due to constant and persistent watchfulness, monitoring, reporting and zero tolerance.  We now have a repeat fly-tip in our street which we're on to again, after quite some time being fly-tip free.Good luck.

we live on a small estate next to st dunstans church and we are also plagued by people putting their old furniture etc in our bin sheds. these are not fly tippers from any where these are actual tenants and owners of houses in friars place lane and bowes road, just because we are an estate and have a large bin shed it does not give people in the houses the right to use it as their own personal dumping ground. Take your  rubbish furniture and boxes to the council dump like everybody else we pay a service charge for our bin shed are you going to pay us for dumping your unwanted rubbish I don't think so. so show some respect and take it to the council dump or pay the council to remove it.

All such dumping must be reported tocustomerservices@ealing.gov.uk    togetherwith a photograph if possible.Customer services will then give the complaint a unique reference number and pass the complaint on to those who can deal with it.  You will receive an acknowledgement.But the important thing is to report it, and get a number, because then it gets fed into statistics which show problem areas to Managers and the figures will eventually end up in Committee reports to Councillors.No complaint = no problem as far as the Council is concerned.So, ALL (sorry for capitals) such complaints, however small, need to be reported, else the Council will think there are NO problems and will not allocate the amount of manpower to deal with them.Make sense?

Diana,Sorry to hear about your problems.  The people who need to deal with this are the Envirocrime Prevention team.  The best way to contact them is to start off by calling 020 8825 6000 and make sure you let them know it is an envirocrime case and that you want an officer to follow up with you.  In my experience this team is very good.  But, if you do not get a good response from the team then ask your local councillors to get involved.  If for any reason they do not want to engage please drop me a line.

Totally agree with Dee......however small, report it so the Council have the data.  I used to photograph all the fly-tips and graffiti, even if I kept them just for our purposes rather than the Councils.

Agree about making sure that there are notices saying that it is for residents' household waste only and no dumping/fly-tipping.  It is important that whoever is fly-tipping knows that it has been noticed and that residents are not happy with the situation.Agree about telling the Council so that it is noted and numbered so that they are aware of the problem - after all if you make a fuss then it may well move somewhere else where they will be able to deal with it more easily/and whoever is doing this may also be dumping rubbish all over the place.Residents' Association?  Or how about a group of residents getting together to make sure that you all know what you can put in your household waste and recycling (you do have flats' recycling don't you?) and where locally other stuff can be donated/reused/recycled/legitimately disposed of. Draw attention to that television programme previously mentioned and the danger of the "I'll get rid of that for you" unlicensed rogue waste collectors who take your money and just dump around the corner and that if the waste is tracked back to you and you have used one of these people you yourself can also be fined.  Make sure that any new residents are aware of where and what to do with their waste and recycling.  The Council can deliver information and/or you can offer information and help before there is a problem.You will also be able to find details of prosecutions that the Council has made against fly-tippers and can draw attention to these.Photographing and sticking those stickers on draws attention to the fact that they have been noticed and makes it easy to identify particular fly-tips when communicating with everyone.  It also documents this anti-social behaviour so that those that do this may have to see what they have done repeatedly even if it is not longer on the street/in the bin cupboards.A lot has been achieved in Acton regarding the illegal dumping of waste (is that a better understood phrase?) with hard work and communication.
