Would anyone like two childrens' bikes?

I have two children's bikes looking for a home. Would be delighted if some one could take them away this weekend for a small donation!They are both 24" wheels. One is a red Giant and the other a silver Saracen. Reaasonable condition.

Try Freecycle if you don't get any takers.  I have helped out people who really need things but can't afford to pay for them in the past - recycling at its best.

Quite happy to pass them on to some of the children on the south acton estate who are in need of a bike or two,less likely they will go out and steal one or buy one that's stolen.Iam amazed how many people gid rid of bikes they no longer require, they end up down at stirling rd recycling centre where they are crushed.

I think the Council should make it clear what happens to things taken to Stirling Road.  It is called a Reuse & Recycling Centre but not everything is reused when it has life still in it, is it?I have seen people before taking furniture there and then obvously feeling a little upset that they are asked to then put it in the crusher.Hounslow has a furniture reuse project and had an open day this last weekend when people "can buy good quality furniture at affordable prices"  Another one still to come and a Richmond one too.  Take a look at the events and info.http://www.westlondonwaste.gov.uk/category/news/

Having got hold of some old bikes off people on the W4 forum and given them to kids on our local estate, I was always hopeful I could get some of the many old bikes left at Stirling Road. Of course, they said they weren't allowed to give them out (health and safety) but that they went up to a plant in Essex - and from their to a local charity. But who knows? It seems bizarre they're not distributed around here.

I think that that is a question that the Council should be able to answer.It isn't good enough to just say that they have a contract with whoever they have the Stirling Road contract with.Reuse is at last getting higher priority - look at this piece on the West London Waste website.  They are looking for reuse projects and business and charity partners:http://www.westlondonwaste.gov.uk/category/news/(3rd news item down: "WLWA awarded funds to start reward scheme for reuse")

www.ealingbikehub.co.uk seem to have some second hand ones for sale and offer maintenance courses.Are there other local groups?

Hi Philipa - thanks for the mention. Ealing Bike Hub has done a lot work in the central and west of the borough where youth can earn a bike by working on a donated bike over a couple of weeks.We're trying to get something similar off the ground in Actin but struggling to find some where to keep the bikes and tools.

Sounds great.  I would imagine that there will be quite a few children getting new bikes for Christmas so they'll be some that need new homes too.
