Acton pool

So sad Acton pool closed it's doors tonight at 6pm. Two very large security guards at reception, Did they think we would steal fixtures and fittings or people would refuse to leave the premises?? What a wonderful building. Really hope it doesn't lie empty for long.

Assuming planning permission is granted, it won't be standing for long. It was very sad, we have been going there for years but now we have to go to Gurnell. Fingers crossed, it actually gets rebuilt and not turned into flats at the last minute.

Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre is much nearer than Gurnell.

I've also been told about the New Chiswick Pool which might be worth investigating. It's in Edensor Road, Chiswick and apparently the E3 stops outside.

Yes but neither have lessons on a Sunday suitable for my children, and Phoenix is pretty much full.

During the closure, could Ealing Council not have arranged a special deal with the nearby Park or Virgin clubs?

I tried the Phoneix yesterday and it felt like a soul less pool; Acton had so much character, I'll really miss it. I'll try Gurnell at the weekend to see if it is any better.

I went to the Phoenix on Wednesday morning. Very quiet and managed to do all my swimming without sharing a lane. Yes it doesn't have the character of Acton but it is easy to get to if like me you are swimming before work.

I was hoping the Council might have arranged special deals with other local fitness concerns for those displaced, but all they came up with was a list of alternative venues, and some free passes - valid in December only - so people can try them out. Very short-sighted, because if folk find acceptable alternatives while the refurbishment goes on they may not come back when the facilities reopen (if they're still around and/or alive by then!)
