Dear all: Due to commitments yesterday this is the first opportunity I have had to review the site and post an entry. We are aware of the robbery mentioned and the case is being investigated by Acton CID. As mentioned it was a nasty incident and the violence offered is higher than the majority of incidents we have reported. I would like to address some of the points/questions made in the initial posting.The comment made by the attending officers of only two units covering the Ealing borough was a little alarmist. This would not in fact be the case as we have response units 24/7 based at both Acton and Southall. Force commitments may dictate staff levels but there will never be an occasion when only two units are asked to cover a borough. To clarify the officer meant that other units were committed be it with attending calls, crime scenes, arrests, stops in the street and Police attendance was delayed. In this case an explaination and apology is entirely justified. . In regard to the robbery rise we have seen a rise in the last 6 weeks of robbery on the Acton Central ward. Extra staff have been supplied in the form of plain clothed squad officers to patrol the area. Offences have been identified and offenders arrested and dealt with, although I am not claiming that we have solved the problem which is ongoing and I ask local residents to remain vigilant. In terms of my team we are focussing patrols within high crime areas both on foot, cycle and in plain clothes. I would urge everyone to be cautious whilst out and about, not just on this ward but generally. Try not to show valuables in the street (phones, wallets, purses), be aware of what is happening around you; many victims report texting on phones, tapping on ipads etc as they are being approached or as the item is being snatched from their hands. Register all valuable property - serial numbers, IMEI and bike frame numbers on www.immobilise.com this enables us to search both our and immobilise databases during stops of those suspected of involvement and during search warrants, allowing us to bring offenders to justice and reunite owners with property.If anyone has any information regarding crime on the area please call/email your local team, call 101 or crimestoppers 0800 555111.
