Nobody seems to remember when the bendy bus had to negotiate Acton Lane, Winchester Street and Avenue Road, when the High Street was closed (Acton under water from a burst water main.) They just could not turn down those roads, it's a wonder the swimming baths were not demolished. They even had problems when they were diverted along Churchfield Road, they just could not turn from Market Place. Also consider how many buses caught fire. Also the back end of the bus was pretty scarey when it used to sway. Good riddance bendy bus.At the next mayoral election, I wonder if we will get a nutter who wants the tram! What would happen if Acton High Street was closed? Let's have some heritage, bring back the trolly bus.As for fare evasion, bring back the conductor, the bus companies make enough profit to facilitate the collection of revenue by clippies and, to evict trouble makers. We never had stabbings or muggings when the conductor was in use.Rant over.
