Acton Main Line Freight Yard work

Noticed this month lots of noise at Acton Main Line Freight Yard - drilling, hammering, "portacabins" erected over night including at weekends.  Got a late letter from Network Rail stating the work is due to Crossrail. No advance notice or anything.Still awaiting a written response from them. They appear to do work whenever they feel like it and do not bother to inform or consult with residents in a timely manner living nearby.

I find this near Acton Central, engineers usually rock up at 1am, set up a generator and start working on the line, no mail drop warning us.

You must complain to Ealing Council, and preferably in writing - email is good. The Council can only act when a complaint/s are received, and in my experience they will.Of course the more complaints received on a particular noise nuisance (and other) issue/s, the better.And you MUST obtain a Reference Number for your complaint, and obviously make sure you keep a note of/record it.My experience is that numerous times a Reference Number is not given out, even when it is an "automatic" requirement.Wonder why that is?

Is this the cause of the constant background humming noise all night audible several streets away from the station?It is starting to be a major irritant, interfering with sleep. Is there any chance of getting this stopped? We definitely received no info or consultation.

Environment -> Environmental Health -> Pollution (Air/Noise)ALWAYS insist on a Reference Number, and keep note of it:-Noise Nuisance / Pollution Control        0208 825 8111( Mon to Thurs from 08:30 to Midnight & Fri to 23:00 )orEaling Council Switchboard                0208 825 5000 Good idea to also send a confirmation in writing:-pollutioncontrol@ealing.gov.ukand/orcustomerservices@ealing.gov.ukAnd don't forget that all important Reference Number.Apologies for harping on about it, but in my experience getting a Reference # for your Complaint is like pulling teeth from the Council. Whether it is some misguided attempt to control complaint levels (by not officially registering them)and thereby making the Council look good I don't know but expect possible "resistence"A great service isn't it ...............................

It has been disturbing our sleep and I will contact our local councillors. Crossrail is a fairly long project and residents should not have to put up those humming noise and works for such a long period.

I'd be grateful if anyone knows if the main line/cross rail noise can be heard half way up York Road. I was hoping to buy a property there but the idea of years of noise sounds horrific.I'd be grateful to know which streets people can hear the noise in.Many thanks, Melissa

I live mid York road and can't hear anything thought I am on the side that doesn't back on to Horn Lane.

On Sunday evening (i think) i heard a consistently loud whirring noise up until i fell asleep (probably about 1am) i live 1/3 of the way down York Road

Thanks very much for your replies Miriam, Maria and Stacey.Stacey could I ask if you live any closer to Horn Lane than no27 York Rd. Could I also ask if you have double glazing. The property I am interested in has the bedroom at the front on York Road but I think does have double glazing. I'm just wondering if that blocks out some of the noise. Hi Melissa,I actually live a couple of houses down from 27-further away from Horn Lane. Haven't noticed any noise/sleep disturbance since that Sunday. I don't think the windows are double glazed, i am not too sure to be honest-sorry! (my flat is also at the back of the building)Stacey
