Boris to use dust glue on Horn Lane

However, I might hold out some hope for sites where a major component of the dust is related to construction.

Who's paying for this?  Are the people causing the dust going to be sent the bill?

The Department of Transport gave Boris £5m in the spring so that he could try some more things so that the Government could try to persuade Europe that London was taking its air quality problem seriously (and so avoid - or perhaps delay-being fined megabucks for not tackling air pollution to meet the health requirements of the directive).http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/projectsandschemes/21103.aspx£1.52m is being spent on spraying dust suppressant on roads (initially on Marylebone Road and The Embankment/Upper Thames Street, but after trials - said to be successful, but I think pretty inconclusive - widened to other central London locations and now to some particular industrial sites - especially if they are next to troublesome pollution monitors).I don't live next door to it, but looking at the figures it would appear that since the Environment Agency got a bit tougher during the year, Horn Lane is doing quite a bit better than it was. The levels of pollution are still too high at the north end of Horn Lane outside the Industrial Estate. I hope the dust glue helps alleviate the problem, however it certainly won't fix it.And for some reason Nitrogen Dioxide levels have now shot right up over the past couple of months. Ealing Council are investigating and a possible cause is the vastly increased lorry traffic to/from the new Hansons plant.Which still has no planning permission, and still has not even bothered to apply - you couldn't make it up.And of course dust glue won't counteract nitrogen dioxide.

The PM10 levels are still too high - but the reduction over the last year is welcome. We still need to keep an eye on it and press for more action.The Neasden Lane transfer site monitor failed the 2011 limits even after the extended margin of tolerance allowed in the first half of the year was taken into account.I suspect NO2 levels will not be helped by the Hammersmith Flyover closure. M4 users could well be using the North Circular and the cut through Acton and Horn Lane to Westway.Putney High Street, as another alternative to Hammersmith flyover, has seen huge NO2 levels in the last week.
