for Sara Nathan -recipe request please!

Sara,Was it you who sometime ago you gave a recipe on W4 for a vegetarian dish called 'Leah's Chickpeas?'I tried to find it several times and could not, so if you have a spare moment I would love to have it.Many thanks!

Leah’s ChickpeasServes 42 table spoons olive oil1 red onion2 garlic cloves – crushed1 teaspoon each of ground cumin, coriander and turmeric2 cans chickpeas (400g each) drained2 ripe tomatoes – peeled and chopped50g raisins125/175g fresh baby spinach – chopped2 table spoons roasted pine nuts2 table spoons chopped up fresh leaf corianderSalt and black pepperHeat oil – fry onions with garlic and spicesAfter 5 minutes – add chickpeas, tomatoes and raisinsCover – simmer for 15 minutesWash and dry spinach(unless it’s the baby washed spinach- pricier but worth it); add to pan with salt and pepper to wilt spinach then sprinkle on pinenuts and fresh coriander and serve with crusty bread.

That sounds like it may be just the recipe I need as I have a couple of tins of chick peas in the cupboard.I usually make a chick pea and egg curry or flaked fish and chick pea salad.Your recipe sounds yummy and I'll give it a go too.

Sara,Thank you so very much! Much appreciated!I have a great friend (vegetarian) who is housebound due to a crippling disease and I wish to bring her round some nourishing food. This is just the ticket!

It is ever so easy to make and at least as yummy as it looks.Have no idea about its provenance: I tried it at a pot-luck supper, loved it and went round questioning people until I found the woman who had brought it - called would you believe it Leah. Hence her chickpeas.

How about the S.N. cookbook!I seem to remember when I was in Tel Aviv many eons ago, that you could get something similar in the main square, in pitta bread for 2sh (£1)

Can't make a recipe book from just the one - and I am not a good cook - just occasionally acquisitive.family favourites; chicken soup and matzah balls; honey cake umm that's it.
