Police operation on Horn Lane.

The police are out in force along Horn Lane and Creswick Road catching uninsured drivers.  It looks as if they are getting results.  Pics to follow.

This was part of the monthly 'Operation Cubo' to find and seize uninsured cars being driven in the Borough. Details of number of cars seized and penalties issued for other offences such as use of mobile phones will be covered by the Police presentation at our next Public Meeting. Charles can I suggest another location for such an exercise. Goldsmith Avenue j/w St. Dunstans Avenue, where I believe in the long distant past, many drivers were caught out, including some 'on the run' criminals.  It is also a known drug dealing location.This junction has the advantage of having a width reducer in place.Just a thought. Thanks.

Dee,You flatter me, our role in the EC&PCG is to liase with and monitor the Police, it is not up to us to tell them where to conduct their operations. But I will pass your suggestion on.Bye the way, there were five different locations operating in various parts of the Borough last week and this pattern will be repeated every month for the foreseable future.

Charles you wroteBye the way, there were five different locations operating in various parts of the Borough last week and this pattern will be repeated every month for the foreseable futureGood.  The amount of people I see on Horn Ln using mobile phones.  Even saw a white van man eating food while tuning onto Grafton Rd, with only one hand on the wheel and, the other hand feeding his mouth.Maybe a covert watch on the crossing at the junctions of Grafton and Hereford Roads.

Nicola,These specific operations are primarily about catching uninsured drivers and seizing there cars.As for mobile phones, the last time I looked at the figures on this in December, over 1,700 drivers in Ealing had received three points on their licence and an £80 fine for this offence since April.From a personal point of view having been hit twice - even though I was stationery both times - by people on mobiles, it really annoys me too. I might add on the first occassion the women wasn't talking, but texting!

2nd Feb. Horn Lane.Yet another police operation to remove the uninsured and those without proper driving licences, plus other offences.Within one hour, two uninsured vehicles have been removed from our roads and, several have been caught for other offences, such as no licence.This operation is more thorougher.

Spoke to a police officer this afternoon and, he said, that it was on going throughout the met area.  There is another one next month.

I wonder if there is a link between the semi-closure of Hamm. flyover and this sudden interest in stopping vehicles.After all traffic is more ramped up than usual and for longer and it must be easier to pull someone over.

Keith,There is no link between the flyover restrictions and today's operations which are part of a Met wide programme to find and seize cars being driven with no insurance.These operations are now a regular occurrence.I went out today to monitor some of those locations in which Ealing Officers were involved. Public response -apart obviously from those caught - is very supportive of what the Police are doing.

It is certainly reassuring to know that these illegal vehicles are being taken off the roads.  Instead of one a month, how about two?  The one on Horn Ln today, certainly got results.I was told that a Bentley got caught last week in Ealing.  If a person can afford one of those, surely they can afford the insurance!

This is very probably something that Bernard Hogan-Howe, the new Commissioner, has instigated. He did it when he was CC of Merseyside and discovered something interesting. When you take uninsured cars off the road, crime drops overall--it seems that petty criminals drive ininsured. Take their cars away and it's harder for them to go about their business
