Another £1 shop opening

Now that the Private (sex) Shop has closed, it looks like we are getting another pound shop on Horn Lane.  Before anybody else comes up with it, sex toys for a £1.Do we really need another pound shop in Acton and, is it lowering the tone of the area?

Better than a sex shopIf we don't need it, it won't last - these things are creatures of the market. If there were customers for a mini-Waterstones (with or without apostrophe)or a branch of Next, presumably that's what we would get.

How about a Waitrose?  Part of the John Lewis group.  Me thinks that Morrisons would have to up their game i.e better trimmed meat.

Waitrose started here but show no interest in returning. Why would they? Most people round her (me included) would think twice about paying Waitrose prices on a regular basis.Still, the Sainsbury's local in Churchfield Road opens in March if you want the non-Morrisons option. And there's reputedly a very good new butcher at Le Viande also in Churchfield Road.

Although his meat is very good in Le Viande, the selection is very limited.Speaking to the owner last week, he said he needs to double his trade to 'make it work'So far he has not been able to supply me with liver.....apparently, I am the only one who has ask for it and he won't buy it in just for me........

Nice bit of lamb's liver sounds good, unlike the rubbish stuff in Morrisons, by the time you have trimmed it, there is not enough to braise or fry.  Must admit Asda is far better.  I do like the sausages from La Viande.  He did say that he could get rabbit if it was ordered in advance.

I have been using the butcher and find him excellent. Really good back bacon. He is also willing to order stuff in if you request it. Would be a great shame if the venture was not sucessful.

I believe not Mondays or Tuesdays - open quite late on a Saturday

Thanks for that. I'll pop down and get some bits. I've only heard great things about him. I did drive past yesterday afternoon and he was standing outside in the cold with a plate of sausages, offering samples to people. Carl

I can't praise the new butcher enough.  Yes, he is more expensive than Morrisons, but he sells good quality meat that is properly butchered and hung.  You really can tell the difference when you cook it.  I'm a convert.  He also loves using proper old fashioned butchery skills, and removes unnecessary fat and glands before weighing.  I don't know how anyone can say he has a limited selection, but please remember he is not a supermarket.  This is something we really need to keep in Acton.

I don't know about liver but I had some lovely lambs kidneys from the butcher - well trimmed and very reasonably priced.

Got some really nice pork bangers, was even offered a bone for the dog. We got to talking about neck of lamb (which was tender and which was tough) he certainly knows his trade.  The new pound shop was bought by the owner of one of the other £1 shops, passed yesterday and, seems to be full of loo roll

The shop sign now says '£1+' so not a 'Pound Shop' really. There is already a Manz Discount shop in Market Place - will that one close I wonder?

They play a really daft promo over the sound system in the 99p store.  It's to inform you about all the exciting bargains to be found in the store, and they always make a point of telling you how much they're selling each one for. Strangely enough, every bargain mentioned is on sale at the same price as everything else in the store.
