Magic mushrooms could be used to treat people with depression.Patients given the banned psychedelic ingredient psilocybin said they felt “in touch with the universe” and more able to recall happy thoughts.And the tests showed it also slowed blood flow, triggering euphoria.Terminally ill cancer patients and people suffering severe “cluster” headaches could also benefit, scientists said.Prof David Nutt – who quit as drugs tsar after claiming alcohol was worse than LSD – said the psilocybin ban had “done more harm than good” by “stunting” research.But he added: “We’re not saying, ‘go and take mushrooms’.
