targeted advertising  at each persons  post  ?

are our posts being used to target specific advertising ?

No? By whom? There are a few posters, one in particular on the Chiswick site who recommends her husband whenever anyone asks for a handy man, she pops up on here sometimes too, but I don't have a problem with that. She is clear on who she is. Are you suggesting people post for something in order to answer their own post? I dont think the 'advertising' on here is a problem, it's fairly obvious when someone is self promoting or indeed putting a business down and people treat such posts accordingly.

Or are you suggesting something more technical? that theres a sort of cookie method of advertisers knowing what we might by by what we post?Dont the ik the software here could cope with that - even if such a thing exists

You may be targeted if you receive email through internet webmail providers or use any of the public search engines, also some internet providers (I think probably most of the well known ISPs) collect use information that they can sell to advertisers.

What sort of advertising do you mean - are you talking about the changing banners at the top of the page?

It's Google.  They track your browsing and target adverts at you.  So, for example, if you search for a kitchen bin online, as I did, be prepared to have months of only receiving adverts about kitchen bins or kitchen appliances or kitchen units ... very annoying but that's the internet for ya.

If you use BT Yahoo with McAfee, open McAfee, navigation,history and logs, incoming events and, just see what has been blocked by the firewall.  You'd be surprised.
