The green box on The Mount

It seems that back in June 2010.. at a Ward Meeting the following exchange took place:"Sara Nathan asked if the green box at Market Place was part of the regeneration programme?2.3) AL advised it is. Officers were investigating where this could be placed. Possible options included a redecoration. Action Acton is running a competition for ideas regarding the green box. - The general feeling from residents at the forum was for the green box to be removed."s it ugly?

The green box is an ugly abomination and repainting it is NOT an option - it obstructs the view of the church from Churchfield Road apart from anything else.The £500,000 will have been incredibly poorly spent if this excrescence isnt removed. Wasted, in fact.But it's not top of the Ealing planners' list although they have made some efforts. At the moment they are talking of replacing it but in the same place - a bad idea - while they keep looking for another option.Morrisons haven't agreed to their land being used - which would help but Nancy is in correspondence with the erstwhile chair and founder and apparetnly he is minded to be helpful.So we live in hope.

Sara. According to the plans re the application, it seems the box is going to be removed and the new one built further around The Mount......or am I reading the design plans wrong ?

From http://www.pam.ealing.gov.uk/PlanNet/documentstore/DC11121523-6-00015_120309_39_01_1.PDF it looks like the proposed box is in exactly the same place as the existing one. The only difference appears to be that the new one has "perforated panels with lighting behind. The perforation pattern will be informed by the identity of Acton."So clearly a great improvement...

So, is it going to look more like a 'container' ?  With pretty patterns and mood lighting?Why not design something that 'looks' like a market stall or cafe. It would be less conspicuous.

I hope this one at least will be moveable - so if/when the council comes up with an aacceptable site, it can just be lifted - rather than us being told it would cost tens of thousands to re-locate.Mark you, now we have the tens of thousands, it still doesn't seem possible. You'd think there was a corpse under the patio.

As it was formerly a lavatory, presumably there's water and power supplies underneath; can't see why they would want the former, but they might want an electricity supply. They just can't be bothered to move it, obviously...

It's not just underneath but fully plumbed in - at one time they thought it would double as a tea stall. Never did and that's one of the reasons apparently it would cost a fortune to move.There was a long gap between it being a lavatory and the green box arriving wasn't there?

Oh no! Silly me, I actually thought they not only planning to remove the ugly green box but put it's replacement in another location!Whatever they erect in this location it spoils the view of St Mary's Church and will probably be another eyesore before too long! Rubbish from the market is always deposited behind the green box which is unsightly.Out of the frying pan and into the fire I think!Surely with that amount of money they could come up with a better alternative?
