Olympic Torch in Ealing

Knowing that the Olympic Torch would be passing through Ealing, I thought it would be interesting to see how LBE were 'celebrating' this event.  Nothing on the local websites, so googled and came up with a page from a council meeting last year. Followed the link which invited me to register for further information.  First request email address, fine, then a password? lots of boxes to tick and then full personal details including DOB. All I want to know is what time the torch will be carried through Ealing and the route, why on earth do they need my DOB etc?  Of course I could be a terrorist and giving these details would make it easier to find me.

Olympic torch to light its way through EalingPublished 19 March 2012The route the Olympic torch will take through Ealing to the official opening of the 2012 games has been unveiled.Pupils from Northolt and Belvue high schools and Councillor Bell at Northala Fields.Ealing Council leader, councillor Julian Bell celebrated the announcement with pupils from Belvue and Northolt high schools at Northala Fields, Northolt – where the Olympic flame begins its journey through the borough on Tuesday, 24 July.Northala Fields has its own Olympic link. The grassy mounds there were built using rubble from the old Wembley Stadium which hosted the games in 1948.The torchbearers will then carry the flame towards Southall and along Uxbridge Road through Hanwell, West Ealing and on to Ealing High Street and Ealing Green, before reaching its final destination at Walpole Park. An evening of free family entertainment will be held at the park to celebrate Ealing being one of only six London boroughs chosen to host the Olympic torch in an over-night stopover.Full details of which streets the torchbearers will be travelling along and when well-wishers will be able to cheer them on are available at www.london2012.com/olympictorchrelayCouncillor Bell said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I hope Ealing residents will be inspired by the spirit of the Olympics and will line the streets to cheer on the Olympic flame as it travels through our borough.
