RIP Jim Marshall. A famous son of Acton has gone to Eleven.

Jim Marshall the guitar amp designer died today. Let us crank it up in his honour.

Chronologically you're right. But reading the news item on the front page, pleasing to note that Jimi did pop over to the Hanwell shop to buy his stacks in person. I like to think they would have riffed over the naming coincidence. And perhaps they're reminiscing about it now.

There is no question they did meet. He met them them all in his time.He also taught Mitch Mitchell to play the drums so he was a big musical influence on quite a few levels. All the harps will be rocking tonight!

There was an amplifier/speaker shop on Acton Vale (close to Askew Rd) called Gane?? Any connection to Marshall or the era. I went there once c.1978 and the woman behind the counter spoke about a famous past.....

Ernie Gane, a friend of my Grandfather.  I recall that Gane's were more of a hi-fi place. He blanked his shop window out as he didn't want passing trade IIRC.As a young teenager in the early 80's I brought an old Vox AC30 and had to take it to Macaris workshop in Jeddo Road (they famously had a shop on the Uxbridge Road in Shepherds Bush too)
