I don't know I've previously done a posting ex officio as Chair of the local Labour Party, but life is full of novelty...- Many thanks to Sarah Gates for spotting that we've been out every weekend since January - Saturday and Sunday - throughout Acton. - Phil Conran: Sorry if we've missed you, and don't know your street, but boy can I assure you we've been out there. So far we've made thousands of direct contacts across the Acton wards. I confess that Boris Johnson's war-chest is substantially better funded (literally more money than they can spend), so we can't compete on snazzy leaflets or postal costs, but hopefully we'll still have a chance to meet you before polling day.- Sarah Harris: on the supplementary vote, one can argue the merits, but surely the important point is that other voters WILL use it, so it seems to me self-defeating to opt-out of what is, in effect, a second election. In these circumstances it works reasonably well, because we know what the final choice will be, and we're confronted with the reality that the mayor will be Livingstone or Johnson, and asked, when push comes to shove, which do we prefer - whichever our ideal candidate. It would be more problematic in a close three-way or four-way contest (you'd need AV for that; er, hang on a moment...)
