St Mary's Cemetery - Acton ,Ealing

Hi all,I am doing some research in to my ancestors and found out that one of my familymembers is burried in St Mary's cemetery in Acton.My question is does this cemetery still exist and if so is there a chance that the 1888 grave is still there?I am living in Ireland myself and am not able to go for a look, is there someone who visits the cemetery sometime?I am looking for the grave of Esther Agnes Brock Arnold was was buried 15 August 1888 age only 11 years old:Record Type: BurialEstimated Death Date: abt 1888Burial Date: 15 Aug 1888Age: 11Estimated Birth Year: abt 1877Parish or Poor Law Union: Acton St MaryBorough: EalingRegister Type: Parish RegisterHer father was George Moss Brock Arnold (Rector) who died in January the same year(1888) mother was Esther Brock Arnold nee Patterson.Any information would be very much appreciatedKind regardsAnnemarie Healy

Annemarie, it might be an idea to email the current rector, David Brammer, at stmary.acton@btconnect.com. Or phone the Parish Office, which is open 1030-1230 weekdays: 020 8993 0422.There are some very old graves around the church itself and more at another site just down the road. Good luck in your search.

But very many of the graves have been repositioned haven't they? And many more are very worn.even if yo were here, it's pretty unlikely you would find the grave just by looking - though it is a small graveyard.It's not still managed by the church is it? I thought the Council had taken it over.The spring flowers - planted by Camilla and her team - were lovely again this year.

As someone points out in that thread, graves on the south side of the church were moved some years ago (the church hall stands there now), but there are still graves on the north side, and as your relative was the rector's daughter I suppose there's a better chance she was buried in the church grounds. The burial ground in Churchfield Road was "thinned out" at some time; old photos show many more headstones than there are now, but it's still worth pursuing. Just to let you all know, that it paid of to contact the St Mary's Parish Office, the lovely lady there had a look and emailed me all the information plus more, and almost straight away after I contacted them, so nice

That's great. Did you find anything pertaining to your relative? I took a walk around the Churchfield Rd burial ground this morning and I saw no legible gravestone bearing her name or even the surname. The stones by the church seem even more worn, but I couldn't get in to look closely.

Yes I did, they are buried in the Churchfield Road burial ground which is also known as St. Mary's burial ground.There are no existing headstones anymore. Burialsceased there and the burial ground was made into a garden in the late 60'searly 70's by the borough council.Turns out that Esthers mother is also buried there and the parish secretary was able to give me the date of death of both.Does anyone know of a local genealogy group of Historical group for Acton, as her father was quite a character , a reverend and author
