A couple of businesses refer to Churchfield Village like it's a specific area!!  Just makes me laugh a bit like estate agent speak....

Is it any more daft than "poet's corner" which I've always thought ever so pretentious.But estate agents...I suppose some attention is nice if it's not of the Evening Standard variety.

But London is made up of a collection of 'villages'. We get to know our local area and behave as villagers, even being defensive when our village is derided. Sadly I hope to be leaving Acton this summer for another London village. looks like I cannot afford even the cheaper end of Chiswick so might end up in historic Brentford or even Isleworth.....

Sara it's not attention from elswewhere it is some of the shops along there referring to themselves being in the "village" it's faintly nauseating!!!

Find the thought of living in a real village wholly abhorrant... small, isolated, deferential and C of E. With dogs. And without public transport. Or an art house cinema three stops away in either direction.

Oh, come on.C of E, how about atheist, R C etc?No public transport, not such a bad idea, no polluting diesel fumes clogging up the lungs.Dogs, after I got bitten yesterday, still love them. (It's just irresponsible owners who have no control, (Should microchip those owners.))Cinema, set on up in the garden shed.

Yes as a matter of fact I have and it didn't conform to the narrow view of life expressed here . But I forgot,'urban and edgy' is everything to some.

Keith, for many years I lived in a small village to the east called Shepherds Bush....... Anyone remember when some years ago Churchfield Rd was termed 'The new Portabello Rd'.....

Bizarre the dissing of dogs in villages when Ealing has been identified as one of the worst parts of London for dangerous dogs.Often(not always before you start) drug dealers and low lifes have aggressive dogs to protect themselves and their lifestyles.I wonder how many 'village' drug dealers and muggers live in the rural idyll of Acton?

Iain,You and uncle Tom Cobbley and all have an urbanised idea of what a village is. S'bush was  a village about 200 years ago maybe.It is not now unless you have no idea what the word village means.Never mind either way.

My daughter thinks "Churchfield Road Village" just has no authentic ring to it and we should pitch for "Churchfield Village" as adding verisimilitude to an otherwise unconvincing concept.

Thank you Sara "verisimilitude"  is the word to learn today,  now if only I could say it I would casually somehow by hook or by crook manage to slip it casually into conversation tomorrow!

Comes of being brought up on a diet of Gilbert and Sullivan.From The Mikado 1885:"Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative."But I had no memory of where it came from when I used it!
