May I ask why you want to deter foxes Amanda? If you have hens, for instance, you may wish to use a Fox Watch (or 2 or 3 intact) placed around the garden. The ones that run on rechargeable batteries are better. They aren't cheap at all (£50 approx) and we've found we have to replace them every 2 to 3 years unfortunately, but they do the job. Previously we tried all kinds (husband saving his wee to place around the boundary - probably worked a little, maybe), human hair, blah, blah. It was only when we used the Fox Watch gadgets that omit a sound that is audible to the fox's ear and hurts them, that we had any success.Warning - if you are protecting hens you need to make sure the garden/area is well covered with the Fox Watches. Also, if you or the neighbours have a dog, it will hurt their ears too, so you can't use them. Our daughter, when slightly younger, could hear this sound, not that it hurt her ears. Theory goes that once foxes in your area learn this garden is to be avoided as it hurts them, they stay away. We used to have lots of foxes before them and now not. However, if you have hens I wouldn't leave them to free-range without being in the house/close proximity even with the Fox Watch as I don't totally trust those sly foxes or the Fox Watch in totality.
