Concrete plant in Horn Lane

There's a planning application for carrying on doing this.The application is on PP/2012/1741 the website is: http://www.pam.ealing.gov.uk/portal/servlets/ApplicationSearchServlet?PKID=148782It's due for delegated decision in July but the consultation is open now if you want to have a look.Not my special subject but I know some local people around Horn Lane are exercised by the site.

More pollution and PM10s.

Original plant demolished a year or so ago, without any permissions whatsoever, polluting the locality to a PM10 level of 10 out of 10 for days on end, complaints made to Ealing Council, and - NOTHING. So, proceed to build another much bigger plant, in a different location, completely against the original Planning Permission requirements of 11/11/64, complaints made to Ealing Council, and - allow Hanson to apply for a more easily obtained Certificate of Lawful Development, instead of insisting they apply for full Planning Permission, like most mere mortals have to do.Also complain about the proven Noise Nuisance, and, after 6 months of noisy operation (once starting at 05:30 am!), Ealing Council are still "talking" to the perpetrators.Hanson Cement, Big Company plc - watch Ealing Council roll over on this. Noel Rutherford, Environment Group Director, Ealing Council, has already produced a wordy letter paving the way and softening the local residents up for the usual gutless Council decision which will allow this travesty.What do YOU think is going on with Ealing Council, go figure.

Have already objected online, citing pollution, PM10s and, local residents suffering from COPDI wonder if the council will have the guts to inform us nobodies, who live in the area how much in back-handers they are getting.  I know the council have to get money from somewhere but, putting peoples health at risk is NOT acceptable under any circumstances.I also wonder how much corruption is going on over planning issues. While on the subject on pollution, the stupid TOUCAN CROSSING, junction Horn Lane/Rosemont Ave is stopping traffic every 90 seconds.  I've heard of automation but, this is ridiculous.  Traffic backing up, ghastly fumes chocking the life out of people.  Carbon Monoxide.....my favourite!  Message for Bassam....Get It Sorted.

As those living in Poets corner/Goldsmith Avenue/Road areas will be aware from the biscuit smell prevelent when the wind is blowing from the north, means that the pollution and very dangerous PM10's are blowing in your direction and all over you and your children.Look up on the internet what PM10's do to you.  Not nice.  The body cannot filter them because they are so small.This site/area is the second most PM10 producing in London.  Beware.

There's no point saying "beware"Does anyone living near the plant have the time or energy to organise a campaign against? this means getting people to write in before the deadline, asking for it not to be delegated, making councillors aware of views, protesting to the company and any number of other things.I simply do not and will not therefore be justified in whingeing when it goes through.But someone else might.

Sara, as you well know I have been going on about the problems of pollution at this location for years. (As have the people who live at that end of Horn Lane.) Ever since I read that this area was the 2nd most polluted in London.  Unfortunately those living in the Goldsmith/Poets corner area are under the impression that this does not effect them. But the wind blows it all in our direction -'smell the biscuits' from the McVities factory further north. So no doubt the pollution is blowing further than we actually think.The Council's Planning/Environmental Health Department have got to have this as a top priority as does Boris Johnson. We are breaking EU regulations.  If it was a human rights problem no doubt it would have been solved by now.  But my human rights are being violated by being subjected to these PM10's which those with the powers to do something about appear to be ignoring.  Perhaps the figures of those with breathing difficulties in Acton/and those working on that site would reveal some interesting statistics?

I know you have been "going on" Doris.But are you going to organise a campaign against it?Nobody will make it a top priority unless there is local noise

'local noises' are the job of Residents Assocations to organise.  That is what they are supposed to do, voice the opinons of concerned residents in a considered and debated way (unless of course they are just social gatherings at which like minded people meet over a bottle of wine, etc. all agreeing with one another). Councils used to sit up and take notice of such organisations, but the tide has turned I believe, as Councils are realising that perhaps such organsiations do not speak for the majority of residents.  Thus the need for large and expensive consultations with everyone and his dog. Life is interesting isn't it!As an aside, in the past I have done my share of campaigning - now is the time for the new blood who have moved into the area, and are hoping to have a future in Acton to take on the baton, so to speak.In this case the Horn Lane people are very organised - witness the failure of the large bus station to materialise at the end of Horn Lane.  It needs those who live in the Goldsmith/Poets Corner area to realise that this pollution is effecting them too.Apologies for lengthly email, my sinuses have been playing up - due no doubt to the pollution coming from Horn Lane!

Our Community Association - which is focussed on the area around Churchfield Road anyhow - is currently involved with the Oaks development - meeting tonight - plus the Town Hall, we've just finished the K CPZ inplementation, involved in 91 Shakespeare Road campaign too. Also keeping a watching brief on the Mayor's money. Plus ongoing licensing matters, grafitti, police liason, Ward Forum, the carnival, the Xmas fair.And then there's the social stuff too which is also important in building communities. Not much sitting about twiddling thumbs, as it happens. And if others would like us to add welly to campaigns, we're happy to discuss it - but a small exec can't take on any more.

See below - for infoA new report by Kings College London finds that Lewisham borough's waste treatment centres at Mercury Way, near Millwall FC, have a serious effect on air quality in the area around it:The contribution of the industrial source represented 27% of the mean PM10 daily concentration measured at the AQMS in Lewisham. Although the concentration measured met the EU Daily Limit Value, the industrial source increased the number of daily exceedances from 5 to 25 days compared to urban background AQMSs. When wind blew from the waste treatment sites it added on average 18.4 μg∙m‐3 to the PM10 urban background concentration.This contribution was slightly larger than the one from road‐traffic sources as measured at RB3 (13.7 μg∙m‐3) and at RB4 (13.2 μg∙m‐3). The industrial sources had a marked weekly and daily pattern, with elevated levels from 7 am to 6 pm from Monday to Friday.The findings were based on measurements taken between February 2010 and September 2011.The impact on air quality seems to be fairly localised and the comparison with emissions from traffic highlights that pollution from cars is the real challenge for air quality in the capital. But for the residents of neighbouring homes, this raises serious questions.

There are Air Pollution Monitors located at Hanger Lane, Western Avenue near Gypsy Corner, and of course our old friend "Ealing 8" in Horn Lane.Now, the Horn Lane Monitor, based in a side, feeder road, regularly shows higher readings than HL or WA, MAIN arteries into/out of London!Conclusion: So obviously local, NON TRAFFIC causes of this absolutely filthy, lung killing air. Over to you London Borough of Ealing and The Environment Agency, show us your mettle.

Councillors were quite supportive weren't they. I wonder if that means Anything. My lack of faith on councillor walker being total!
