Avenue Road, big Ginger Tom

I seem to have been adopted by the above much to the consternation of my existing cat. He hasn't been neutered and I'm getting close to taking him to the vet to do the necessary deed, but there's  a nagging doubt in the back of my  mind that he is someone's cat because though he appears hungry all the time  he looks otherwise in good health and is very strong. Is this cat familiar to anyone ?

Gareth - would be worth getting in touch with Cats Protection Lost and Found line on 020 8423 1403.  If they haven't got a report of him being missing i'd get him along to the vet sharpish. They could also check for a microchip. There are too many unneutered cats around here, and if the owner eventually turns up and the deed has been done you will have saved everyone a  lot of trouble.

Hah! I was "adopted" by a semi - feral moggy about 3 years ago. I thought he had owners at first who had moved away as he is obviously a house trained cat. who has been neutered, and always 'asks' to be let out. I swore I wouldn't get another pet after my 14 year old cat died in my arms about 10 years ago. It was OK with this cat at 1st as many other people were feeding him and letting him crash the night, but now he just comes to mine and wails as loudly as he can until I let him in for food or rest.The weird bit about all this is that I 'feel' as if I know him from another life or something. I used to think reincarnation was true, but now I don't really care about it, still this feeling of familiarity persists with this cat.I just wish that Frontline wasn't so expensive.

Thanks everyone , he's now sat o n my sofa as I write this after I just fed him, he's definitely got flees, sigh. I go to work at 530 am and I saw him this morning wondering down the street, I think he can't belong to anyone as he is out all hours, is ravenous, and hasn't been neutered so it's looks like I'm gonna have to take him to the vets, Oh the cost! I'm poorly paid! But I'm a sucker for animals and don't want to see him end up in a bad way but getting him into a cat basket is gonna be very interesting!

If you get in touch with the Cats Protection in Spencer Road, Acton, they sometimes fund such neutering.  Goddard Veterinary (tel 020 8896 0398) in the Horn Lane will be able to give you their telephone number.  If you can assure them that the cat is a fleabitten stray and that you are happy to give him a home they will probably ask you to take him to Goddard Vets who will sort out the fleas, his castration :o( and microchip him and Cats Protection will pick up the bill.

Maria - sorry, it doesn't quite work like that any more.  Speaking as Secretary of the Ealing Branch, I'm afraid we rely more on a general charities scheme now.  I've got in touch with Gareth Sinclair about it.
