Royal Mail & TNT Post UK

Got a leaflet from Royal Mail today moaning that TNT Post UK are now collecting, sorting and delivering mail to all West London addresses and how "clearly this threatens the sustainability of the universal service".Obviously they are not providing an adequate service therefore businesses have gone else where.Sour grapes...

Yes, hurray I say!  Almost wrote to them to say so.Funny given how little I have to do with Royal Mail/Post Office that I can dislike them so much.  I guess its a long record of poor service has built up.

From the TNT website:TNT Post, Britain’s largest private postal operator, is to conduct a second end-to-end delivery trial from mid-April in West London following the successful conclusion of its first E2E trial in Liverpool.The company is using the trial to enable it to carry out further testing and analysis of its operations and would like to roll out a broader end-to-end service when barriers to competition are removed.The company has a long held ambition to launch its own delivery service within the UK but is unable to realise this strategic goal until the Royal Mail VAT exemption on final mile delivery is removed.Nick Wells, CEO TNT Post commenting on the trial said:“TNT Post has built an excellent reputation for quality, innovation and providing choice for its clients. We now want to take those qualities and apply them to our own delivery service.We want to make a significant investment in infrastructure and create thousands of jobs in the UK but the government is doing little to help us to do this. We need the government to announce that it is going to allow fair competition in the UK postal market by removing the Royal Mail VAT exemption on final mile delivery”.LET BATTLE COMMENCE!

There have been masses of complaints in Chiswick about TNT dumping letters for lots of different addresses at one house. Our TNT deliveries have been okay, though, and come earlier than the PO. It's like having two deliveries a day again!

All our TNT ones have been late afternoon - well after the Royal Mail.The problem is that TNT cherry pick and RM isnt allowed to. So TNT delivers only mail from compaanies to posh urban addresses.It's not going to serve rural communities or rougher estates is it?

TNT franked mail has taken over 10 days to arrive at our address. Not great when it's a bill with 10-14 days notice to pay. :-(

I had coffee on CHR yesterday and watched a pair of TNT men cycle west on the pavement looking lost, while a RM man pushed his trolly east. The cafe owner said it's all very confused, that he often gets two deliveries a day.While I drank my coffee he received two deliveries, both from TNT men.
