Island on High St/Acton Lane Removed!

Well they've completely removed one of the islands, what a total waste of money, the council officer or consultants responsible for this total waste of money should have the expense docked from their pay.Hopefully this will mean the council review some of the other crazy aspects of the High Street redevelopment program.

Completely agree. If this happened in the private sector someone would be repremanded, if not sacked, for being useless and causing a massive waste of money but as public sector workers think the world owes them a living they'll just move on to the next screw up and start the cycle of wastage again.And they have the cheek to moan that the government isn't giving them enough money.  Were they in the slightest bit efficient they wouldn't need so much money!

This is a TFL plan and so Boris is to blame.

The money is from Boris who works with the council to decide what to do on the roads, therefore it's up to the council to get it right, not Boris.

It’s complicated. TfL give councils money to support road infrastructure projects to enhance safety etc. Although Ealing Council is responsible for the Uxbridge Rd, it’s part of London’s strategic road network which means TfL can veto any changes they don’t like. I suspect in practice TfL and Council highways officers are too close and dream up their own projects, which they present as ‘improvements’; sometimes sharp eyed residents and local councillors notice that it ain’t necessarily so.A good recent example is a set of proposals in West Acton that included removing the pedestrian refuge on Eastfields Rd with Noel Rd. Certainly not in the interests of pedestrians but it would make it easier for the 440 bus manoeuvring at this junction, so one can see why TfL would be keen. I think this idea has bitten the dust following residents’ comments. To understand how these things work remember Lenin’s first question when hearing any news: who benefits?
