A significant proportion of the UK population does live by the sea, likewise a significant proportion who don't do visit occasionally. I understand Ealing waste is transported to Kent "for processing", and last time I looked Kent is surrounded by the sea on at least two sides. Whether that which isn't recycled is incinerated, or land filled, or taken away by sea after that, who knows? There are huge whirlpools of undegraded plastic swirling around the Pacific and the Atlantic. As well as regularly discarded rubbish in our local roads, gardens, parks, ponds and rivers.These include discarded plastic water and fizzy drinks bottles - the type that many people in Acton (and elsewhere) insist on piling to chest height in their supermarket - which sickens me as well. We are lucky to have drinkable tap water in the UK - and we pay for it through our water bills. Bottled water has to be 'manufactured' and transported, and the waste bottles disposed of.Since Ealing council is responsible for our waste collection and recycling, I wonder if they could make more of an effort, perhaps with Thames Water, to encourage people to use tap water for drinking and cooking, rather than saying we'll take your plastic away for you.They do advise lining food waste (compost) bins with newspaper.
