Love Acton Art  Gallery

I wan't clear from the article where this isIs it in or next to the George in the High Street?

It looks like the empty space to the side of the George, just before the old So Asia restaurant.

I don't think the location is right..... not much foot fall in that part of the high street.

'not much foot fall. ??!If it's where I think it is, the pavement is too narrow for all the feet walking up and down it!Whether they will come in to view an art gallery is another matter, but feet are there in plenty.

If you don't strive for 'right first time' unfortunately you will not achieve much in this life.It's an excellent idea, but possibly in the wrong location.If you want to sell art, then I believe you have to locate the gallery to a place where the local population have the money to buy it.We shall see.

ie not in Acton?Or is that not what you meant?It's not fair is it to put enverything nice in Churchfield road and leave the High Street out of it?

I Agree Sara.We need to start doing something in Acton High street.I Was in Willesden on Saturday and it now has a bunch of shops  that have been given over for use as 'pop up' shops to encourage new business.I don't know how successful they are but it has brightened up these formerly empty units and has given a bit of oomph to the town and what it has to offer.I lived there for a number of years and never dreamed that Willesden would get its act together before Acton. In summary we need Interesting Innovative things like this all over Acton! Dee: you should see where some of the most exciting galleries are in San Francisco! Definitely not in places where the money is!

The art gallery is where it is because the landlord of the George & Dragon (which owns the premises) has agreed to give Acton Community Forum a 'meanwhile lease', which is a simple lease that allows things like 'pop-up' shops and galleries to exist, for a peppercorn rent - otherwise, in these straitened times, such a gallery simply couldn't exist.The ACF hope to have its first exhibition - of many of the really great artworks that were created by local people for the 'Love Acton' campaign - early in August.

Thanks NancyI may be needing this for my own pop up event soon!There are plenty of places to do this in East London but i really want to be able to promote my new Business venture somewhere in West london too.Good news all round i reckon.: )

Good for the G&D! I know everyone wants Churchfield Road to be the Devonshire Road of Acton but Acton is too big a sprawl for one small road of cafés and hairdressers.  It's great to see a tiny glimmer of hope in the High St, with the new pavements and road layout, the covering on Beechworth House.  Too bad the Oaks developers didn't see the importance of the High St.I hope the gallery is successful for both the G&D and ACF.

I so agree - it would be great to see different parts of the town centre reinforcing each other wouldn't it?But we are not going to get great retail emporia and I think cafes and salons do well as they are serving a niche unobtainable on the internet. No technology enables sending the noddle of for a quick cut and blow-dry while you get on with something else!
