Acton Carnival

Was anyone else kept awake last night by that dreadful din they call the carnival? 5.45am it stopped.  At the local ward forum we were informed by the police that it was licensed until 7pm and would be heavily policed.  I attended earlier and it did have a very heavy police presence and people were being searched on the way in.  So, what happened?  Did the police go home at 7pm and leave them to get on with it? If it was licensed until 7pm surely the organisers have a responsibility to ensure that everything is closed down and packed away at that time.Am I the only one who questions why the council funds an event that does not appear to be representative of our local community?  And I wonder will it be funded and licensed again next year having broken the terms of its licensing this year?

We were kept awake also from the continuous din that went on throughout the night non-stop, and which finally ended at 5.45 a.m. when we got up to go to work.  We do not live near the park so I shudder to think how loud this awful din was for people close by.  Did anyone bother to complain to the authority or police?  This event must not be allowed to take place again next year!  We shall be complaining to the council on Monday and I suggest others do the same thing!

How odd!We drove past at just before midnight and it looked dark and we couldn't hear anything inside the car.It was indeed supposed to end at 1900.I wonder what happened

Apologies to the carnival organisers - tiredness through lack of sleep didn't check my facts first.  Just found out that the carnival finished at 11pm and the noise after that time was from a private party in Western Avenue that had a PA system blaring out until 5.45am.

Jaqueline = I live just opposite to the park and would confirm that it was definitely quiet after around 1930.  Most of the fair left during the evening = the rest has left this morning.  The noise during the day was awful, but I suppose we must expect that.

Was the noise during the day ghastly?While we wee setting up, the noise was excessive at times and then quietish again.Each year we debate whether to have a stall and support this local enterprise or whether we should protect our own eardrums. And each year the organisers say that it won't be as noisy and the controls will be strict. They were a couple of years ago but maybe it has slipped again.

Yes, Sarah - it was pretty bad, and must have been very bad for the people in the old Almshouses.  It would be nice if, just for a change, we could have some other sort of event in the park, like other parks in the borough.  It would be some sort of compensation for fairs and the carnival, which is all we get!

We could hear it loud and clear in this part of West Acton just south of the Paddington main line. It was also very audible near Ealing Common. I was surprised how far the bass notes carried.
