Burglaries over last week......

Four houses burgled in Saxon Drive, West Acton, reported to the police over the weekend so please be vigilant.Suspects entered overnight and locks may have been forced to gain entry.We woke up on Friday morning to find our 'secure' back gate, wide open and our shed door had been opened....nothing taken (that we can see) thankfully but this could have been due to 2 very alert and noisy dogs that we have......The police have done leafleting to all houses this morning.Please be aware.....

Thanks for the heads up. Saxon Drive is adjacent to where i live.Was one particular part of the street targeted?just wondering if they only hit houses that back on to the railway line?

Hi Jamie.No, it was a mixture of houses both sides of the road.Would be a brave burgler that tried to access houses from the railway bank now after the new high wire fencing and razor wire on top of it......Totally overgrown with tall nettles anyway.They gained entry from the front of the properties I understand...

I once had a man 'expose' himself to me (I'd seen him wandering around the area for some 2 weeks) when I lived in Avenue Gardens W3.  Luckily my quick action and the need for him to dress himself quickly, meant that he was caught by the local fast acting police.Guess where he lived - Wandsworth.Thieves/rogues and the like usually never s..t on their own doorsteps too risky.

What studies there have been suggest burglaries are usually committed by local criminals. Domestic burglary is generally an opportunistic rather then premeditated crime, eg. ne'er do well sees an open window/door and decides to take advantage. And burglars are serial offenders, so the targetting of several properties in one street in a short period of time is predictable. One should expect more, so keep doors and windows closed and prevent access to the rear of houses (the favourite entry point for criminals). If it's a known villain, the police may well have been informed that he (and burglars are nearly always male) has recently moved into the area.I make no comment on the honesty of people in the fairground industry, but they show a lack of greed/ambition/judgment if Saxon Drive is on their list of top targets for loot.

The biggest encouragement to domestic burglary seems to be hedges!A hedge hides the burglar and also damps the sound of breaking glass or other forced entry.A career burglar - going through restorative justice with four families he had burgled - siad that if there was one thing that made him target a property, it was a high hedge.
