Nails in tyres

We've had to replace 3 tyres in the past few months due to embedded nails in them. One had 4 bent nails in.  Very expensive.  This happened last year too, many times.We don't travel very far really, so it's odd.  Then I had a thought today......we don't often go down Friary Road or the top of Horn Lane but I went that way today with the windows open and thought I heard a tinkling sound on the road.  Could this be debris from the many, many skip lorries that travel those roads?  Was it a nail?  Do our roads get swept?  Should they?  Anyone else have this experience?  Not sure how else one could explain so many nails when we don't travel a huge distance or on motorways.

I think I've only experienced a nail in a tyre once in a lifetime of driving, and I do use motorways. There's something odd there.

There is a system where you can get small holes in otherwise perfectly good tyres safely plugged.I had this done a Motorwise in Brentford 6 months ago.£10 if memory serves.I have done motorway driving with it and no problems at all.

I have gone through periods like that myself. If a tyre needs replacing buy a second hand one, only £25

Within the last few months I had two nails stuck in the tread gaps on the same tyre within a couple of inches of each other, it looked like a nail gun job, and someone else has had a couple of tyres damaged in the same way in the same area, close to St Andrews Road, East Acton. The tyre may not go flat instantly if it is a clean nail making a clean hole, but it will get bent and damaged as you drive.

Probably famous last words but I drive up Horn Lane every day and have never had a problem. I have several times had a screw in my tyres usually from parking where carpenters have been working.

A couple of years ago I had 3 fairly soon one after another, each time I called Acton Tyres,  mobile repairers, he is brilliant I think it cost about £15 a time, thoroughly recommend him.

There is more chance of picking up a large headed screw or nail than a long and slim nail from a nail gun, and the chance of getting two close together when I have driven nearly half a million miles (mostly for work) and hardly ever had a puncture is even less.

Angela, I had a nail in my rear tyre about 5 weeks ago, had it repaired and last night I had another one, on the same wheel and the same spot so it could not be repaired again and I had to replace the whole tyre. What is going on ???

Not sure what's going on.  Perhaps I'll lock the forecourt gates at night, see if that helps, but I can't think that anyone doesn't love me......  :-(

They could be linked to the same mob that disrupted the Tour de France. If you see any bushy-moustached blokes in berets on bikes carrying strings of onions, I'd give the old bill a bell. Not saying the French are behind it, but it's not called  sabotage for nothing.

Obviously not Chris as you din't instigate this thread and if you read many of the postings,particularly in the first half of the thread you will the sharing of the experiences and suggestions as to how to proceed.Beyond reporting this to th bobbies what more can be said or done? Obviously.

I drove along an empty A40 on Tuesday, there again I could have been hallucinating on crack cake.  Got some weed in my tyres.  Did get a ringing  (bell) sound when I unfastened my seat belt.

Like a tack a clout nail is a type of nail.Used for fixing down roofing felt usually.
