Tony's chippie

Unusually tonight, I felt the urge to have some old fashioned fish n chips. Luckily, I live (I thought) just round the corner from an excellent chippie: Tony's at the top of Horn Lane. Ao I strolled round and was somewhat surprised to see the shop front locked and shuttered with a notice that the premises was for sale.How long has it been shut? Has the business relocated? (I know it hasn't always been where it is (was) ) Anyone know?I pass that shopping parade half a dozen times a week; perhaps I should have been paying more attention.

Tony always closes for a month in August for his annual family holiday. I don't think he will close permanently until the property sells though......

You can try Sham's Fish bar the beginning of Churchfield road near morrisons, nice fat hand cut chips *chomp chomp*

I recommend shams at the top end of Churchfield  Road.Lovely fish and chips and they will cook it while you wait.

Agree - Tony's is the best for fish and chips.  When they re-open after their holidays, let's keep him in business and buy from him.

I used to work on the North Acton Trading Estate in the late 70's and used to use this chippy.Is it under the same owners I wonder.It was always pretty good.

They were originally at Gypsy Corner, but that shop was demolished ready for the flyover. They now have competition from other take=away shops in the same area.

Well, it's not all that far from Gypsy Corner now. It used to be on the right hand side of Horn Lane (going North)right at the top.Now it's one of the handful of shops in the little parade on the corner of Noel Road, competing, as you say, with Fresh and Delicious (which I've never tried) and the Chinsese which seems to change names regularly but has always been quite good.I hope he does stay in business. He supplies the meals for the St Gab's semi-annual quiz night (next one October 6th) and it will be a poorer night out without him

Coming back to this after a few months.  The shop is now solidly boarded up with some blokes digging away at the base of the frontage. Looks like it's an ex-chippie

Builders are now in and a smart new shopfront has been installed. No clue as to what it's going to be yet

I thought it was just a refurbishment of the chip shop itself... I do hope Tony's reopens.  IMO, Atlantic Fish Bar on Churchfield Road do the best chips, but Tony's is still a proper chippie and a local institution.  Would be a real shame for it to go.

There was a sign in the window prior to the work starting which said that the shop would be closed for a refurbishment until mid Feb.So don't worry, it looks like Tony will be back!
