Football

I have some 17 year old students staying with me till May, they play football regularly in Norway and play in a team there. They, and some of their friends are looking firstly For a grass/astroturf pitch with nets to play at here to keep up their training. as well as a team that is looking for players, that they could join. Their college has fitness facilities but not football and being students cost is a factor. Twyford and Reynolds are reasonable in price but concrete. Gunnersbury Park has pitches but goals with no nets. Gurnell and Trailfinders are possibles but are a bit more expensive. Goals is also an option but on the expensive side too. Old Actonians have teams they could possibly join but do not hire out their pitches. Have i missed anywhere obvious? Are there pitches in a park somewhere that have nets? Does anyone know of pitches that can be hired inexpensively in Acton/Ealing or the surrounding area, or any teams looking for players? Many thanks in advance.

There are a load of five a side football pitches at Turnham Green. See them on the Picaddily line on the way home from work. Thanks Fred. It seems that all of the pay to hire pitches charge between £55 and £150 an hour depending on the size of the pitch, which is a lot if you play regularly. The parks option seems best, but there are no nets. I checked out North Acton Playing Fields too, also no nets. Am i missing something? Do you bring your own nets to fix on the goalposts???? Forgive me if that's an idiotic question! The best option i've found so far is at Lammas Park, £20 an hour five a side pitches but there are only 2 and they get very busy. Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Pitshanger and Ealing Acton Whistlers are two local clubs who would play friendlies, I am sure, if you gave sufficient notice.  also worth checking out Goals at Alperton as they have leagues operating and plenty of footie loving amateurs.Good luck

Think the goals on South Acton Recreation Ground have nets.  Don't know if it's marked out as a proper pitch or just some goals in the park.  Will check when I'm next there with my boy.

jogabo.com is a social networking site for people wanting to play football.There are 5 a side pitches at Virgin Active which I think can be used by non-members.

Your welcome to use the large goals on the rec there are some smaller ones on avenue rd play area as well just supply your own cones etc. These are really  for the children of South Acton to practice in as there are no other grass practice areas on the estate, provided and maintained by myself for many years now,and it's free.

Hi, thanks Ricardo. South Acton Rec is indeed where they have been playing and they are going to check out training at Old Actonians tonight and hopefully start playing in one of their teams. Thanks all for your help and suggestions.
