Mortimer, our black cat.

Mortimer ran away when the builders were renovating our kitchen. He has turned up several times, but is clearly puzzled by the change in layout and leaves again. The last time was last night at 2am. We have noticed that he is looking sleek and well fed, so someone is looking after him and we think he cannot be far away. We are in Cumberland Road with a back  gate into Nemoure Road, so if you live nearby have you seen him? He is a handsome cat all black except for a few white hairs on his chest. Black whiskers and a goggle eyed expression. Not very bright but very cuddly. We miss him. Any sightings, let me know.

Marie,I live in Highlands Avenue and have seen a rather sleek black cat in my garden over the past week. If it is Mortimer, I am not feeding him! If I see him again I will see if he will come for a cuddle. I can't take him in though, as my own cat would be very unhappy! (She is an 'indoor' cat and sits and looks out of the window and 'yowls' at strange cats in 'her' garden!)

Amanda thank you. My son thinks he saw Mortimer yesterday at the junction of Cumberland Road and Highlands Avenue so you may be right. There is another black cat living nearby but he has a collar. Mortimer ate his so the only way to distinguish him is the dozen or so white hairs on his chest. I will prowl along Highlands avenue myself today in the hope of spotting him. Any sightings, do let me know. Thanks again.

My garden backs on to Summerlands westside and Horn lane gardens. Have not seen him today, actually not seen him before yesterday. Very friendly not intimidated by my cat or other black cat with collar that was also sitting on the pergola at the time. Good luck.

Sorry, no more sightings of Mortimer today - only the other black cat with a silver collar!(BTW my garden backs on to Cumberland Road - where the alley way runs behind the properties in Cumberland Road and Highlands Avenue.)

Thanks to both of you for keeping an eye out for Mortimer. We don't think he has come home again since the last sighting. I should say he ran away once before and was gone for a month before turning up early one morning purring madly and with a cobweb on his ear. Turned out one of the students next door had been feeding him, but she has moved on now. Morty is 'a six dinner Sid cat' and doesn't discriminate between people who can open a tin of Whiskas.

We live at the Western Avenue end of Perryn Road and in our garden there is a black cat that we feel would like to move in.  Our cat takes a dim view of this, but they have stopped fighting.  He did have a blue collar but we took it off thinking that if he had owners they would replace it, but he does seem to be a stray.  He likes to eat but does not look as fat as six dinner sid.  I can send a photo but not sure how to get it from my phone to this posting!

Thanks so much Kathleen, Mortimer did have a blue collar which vanished. Thanks for feeding him if it is him. Morty is distinguishable by the scattering of white hairs on his chest and the permanently startled expression in his yellow eyes. I am a bit surprised that he has travelled as far as Perryn Road. I could come and take a look if you like. PM me your number.

Well, he certainly has some white hairs on his chest and a surprised look in his yellow eyes.  He was here at 8 am for breakfast and often sleeps on the garden bench.  We are at 123 Perryn Road.  (Not too sure what PM means)...He is here now in our sitting room - back door open

So it wasn't Mortimer eating supper at Kathleen's house. I thought it was rather a long way to Perryn Road, So we are still looking out for him.

We have had a black handsome male cat move in with us, he broke into our cat flap (literally broke it), he has BLACK whiskers, very very affectionate, 15 white tiny hairs on his chest, he comes at 7pm, refuses to leave and I haven't the heart to boot him out, leaves at 7am, however, when I left this morning, he was currently in spare bedroom sprawled on bed. He has quite a startled expression, likes to cuddle, can be carried like a baby, our garden backs on to Nemoure gardens and the left side backs on to Cumberland/Acacia garage site....we think he is owned due to his warm nature and ability to destroy a locked catflap and thought maybe he had got lost, during the day, he hangs out in a Nemoure garden, maybe the old lady feeds him as she likes cats, then around dusk comes to ours for B&B...I did try to disuade him.....

I just wanted to tell you all of the happy ending to the story of Mortimer. He has been living happily with Annie and Mike for the last couple of months but had been visiting them (and eating suppers of roast chicken ) for two years!! Annie says he also 'visits' an old lady on Nemoure Road as well. I've been round to see him and he is well and happily settled in with lovely Annie, so we have agreed that he will stay there. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he took to visiting me sometimes.  So glad to find him safe and well. Thanks again Annie. He is in good hands.
