Retired English teacher sought...

For a post school homework club in Westminster.This is a pilot scheme  to boost achievement by disadvantaged kids and involves One to one tutoring for two and a half hours on Tuesdays.There's rubbish pay Offered but it's Going to be fun and worthwhile - the organiser tells me. Starts next week so early contact appreciated!

Homework hub starts tomorrow - Tuesday October 2nd - without an English teacher but with quite few keen pupils!Any ideas?

Yes.  Pay more!  It seems a great pity to have keen, disadvantaged pupils who want to devote their time to this but no-one at the helm.  What a great pity.  Couldn't you pay more until the cheaper person arrives?  Is it English, specifically?  What about a trip to the Library or your Book Club (or a book club in Westminster) as a starter?  What about a word game of some sort?

This is a pilot for a specific scheme to roll out across the country.More details here: www.spirehub.org.ukIt pays £40 a time - plus expenses I think but the aim is to motivate retired teachers who want to do some one to one coaching- but hate bureaucracy/management - etc to work with some ambitious but underachieving kids - mostly at Teach First schools I expect.So I think they don't want people for whom the pay is the only motivation.They have five teachers already at the start up scheme - just no-one for English.

Oh sorry - no that was in response to the deferred availibility of maths teacher from Keith!the scheme has a maths teacher but still none for English.Sorry - being too clever and elliptical by half!

In Spain the age of consent is a worrying 13 yrs.

That's a child.  15 and a half......a grey line for the child, although, as a Teacher, a no-go area of course.  Ever.

The no-go area for a teacher goes a good way further than that doesn't it - if they are in loco parentis or the child is status pupillari or whatever the term is.Should include up to graduation in my book - because it's an oppressive use of power.Anyhow - not likely in a homework hub in a supervised fifteen minutes a week and with a MASSIVE age gap.
