Chemist

I need repeat prescriptions it would seem on an ongoing basis so to save me having to drop request at surgery and then collect,  does anyone have any views on the service of local chemists getting the repeat prescription for you and you just collecting from chemist?  I thinking of chemist on horn lane, or  Lloyds on Crown Street (though they seem always so slow and busy).

Boots do it too.I have signed up - you get lots of lovely bonus points when you do - but haven't used it as it seems to take a while and I am not that well organised.Essentially it is three or four days. But at least you don't have to go back when, inevitably, they don't have the whole prescription in stock.

I have my repeat prescriptions with Lloyds in Crown Street and the system seems to work very well. The trick is to go in when they're not so busy, which is easy enough for me as I walk past them several times a week... I think several local chemists do it, so choose the chemist that is most convenient for you.

The new chemist on the high street, which is where the old ice cream manufacturers were do it. They haven't been there long but they are lovely people and very helpful and open really long hours. I cant recommend them highly enough.

Kevin,  I don't know a new chemist,  what is it near?  Seems most are on the high street apart from the Horn lane one which does notwork long hours.

PIZZA EXPRESS do we have one on our High Street surely that is a bit upmarket for Acton High Street?!  Thanks Kevin I'll pop down as it is new and if it is open late would be the best option.  Wish we had one on Churchfield Rd,  I do try and avoid the High St as it's so bleak!

There was one on Churchfield Road till not that long ago but when Lloyds decided to close it, the local PCT refused to allow another to open as it said the area was super-served. the doctors surgery in Churchfield Road wanted one and the CCA supported but the NHS bureaucrats wouldn't listen. Most annoying.

I have started using the new chemist in the High Street and they are great.they have a 100 hour contract - and that's how long they have to be open a week so its 0630 til 2230 I think every day.Run by a brother and sister - both pharmacists and nice and bright and clean.Plus they message or call when your prescription is ready.Really excellent...and a pleasant change from Lloyds and Boots.

Jen - I've used Lloyds for some time - they collect the prescription when it's due from the GP, and give you a note when the next one will be ready.  Have had no problems, and they always seem to have things in stock, which I don't think Boots do.

6.30 to 10.30 are very good hours. I still have not sorted out a regular chemist to use but with those hours they would be ideal.  As the previous poster asked where exactly on the Hight St are they located?

Ah just read through earlier posts again so it's the one between Windmill and Pizza Express,  must pull my finger out and sort out.  Although have been organized enough to get the pre pay certificate,  hope have actually saved myself money!

I can thoroughly recommend Horn Lane Pharmacy, Ive been a regular customer of theirs for the last 5 years and  I must say that I have found them friendly, efficient and helpful. They do repeats and deliver when really necessary and the wait isn't long at all.

Just to say a huge thank you to the lovely people who run the new chemist in the High Street. I'm having to have my blood pressure taken almost every day at the moment and they do it quickly, carefully and cheerfully on a walk-in basis. And any time between 0630 and 2230.Boots on the other hand, don't do it, and a pharmacist at one branch said that was because they didn't make money from it. So much for a public service profession.

Nice to know Sara. Hope you are alright. Your BP must be raised by simply walking to the chemist. You can of course buy home BP kits. Not as accurate but shows the trends.

That new chemist is great,  it was fab to go in on the way home from work and not queue/wait for 15-20 mins for a prescription,  bloody marvellous.

You can also request your doctor for a 'login' if your surgery offers it. I need some regular medication but because I vary my dose, it can sometimes last longer than a month. I just log into the portal and request a repeat from the doctor. My local chemist (Walkers) is great in that after I've requested a repeat online, I just email the chemist telling them I've a prescription due. They then collect it and keep it all ready for me. They just mail me back saying it's ready and I go in and pick it up. I really like the setup (lazy as I am :-) )

I could buy one but am hoping this is only for a couple of weeks - side effects of noxious pills. And going there every day or so is not really much of a bind.But I hope its on the way down now. (along with the size of the ankles!)

We need a "save your local independent pharmacist campaign"Was in Westminster today and they could not have been sweeter about taking errant blood pressure (not as good as it should be, thanks for asking)And this delightful shop feels it is being forced out of business by the large multiples - yet it obviously offered the sort of personal service that Boots and Lloyds no longer even aspire to provide.Can save Gaby's Deli - but the nation's pharmacies might be a tad harder.

New wonderful chemist only closed for two days and is now back open incredibly long hours. Hope they are making a living.
