Window smashed by trick or treaters

What sort of example are parents setting their children where a"mother" throws a bottle through my window when told that at ten pm is too late sorry   it really is time tomove from Poets Corner  To cap this the mother just laughed and ran off with her small child running after her.

Deary me.  Just awful.  We've had 12 lots of kiddies with parents tonight, all very well behaved and very polite, I have to say.  Ten o'clock is far too late to be out with a small child trick or treating.  Broken Britain, I'm afraid.  What a terrible example to her child.

Exactly! The thing that really riles is that I realise accidents happen however there was no attempt at an apology and surely anyone with a modicum of common sense knows that if you throw a bottle at glass it will break. Its very upsetting and somebody could have been injured

Called the 101 service who were sympathetic and advised it was a really busy night. Someone will be in touch in 2 days.  Not sure what I expected and perhaps shouldn't have bothered them.  I just feel really cross about the attitude and lack of example shown.

Definitely report it so that it can be counted and used to request more police patrols, you may even be able to identify the culprit.

To identify the offender would be marvellous! This story is reminding me of the pregnant woman who stamped on a man's head, in the papers this week.  Was the Judge right to suspend the sentence? She had previous form.  I don't think he was right. I think a good example should have been set and I ask myself seriously concerning questions about the welfare of her children.

I think our country is rapidly heading for a huge backward turn in civilisation. There will be a tipping point, one way or another.How do we stop our judges being out of touch?  My understanding is that you cannot be a judge unless you've been a solicitor or barrister, so that limits us to a certain class, does it not, in general?

Sarah, what road do you live in?  Cars in Goldsmith Avenue were sprayed with coloured sticky aerosol stuff.  Could it be the same group?OK, it was harmless, but it could not have been.

Sarah,I'm so sorry to hear of your misfortune. We've had many years of trick or treating and nothing like this has ever occurred in fact it seems to be much better of late with responsible parents on hand. I wouldn't move from PC. You sadly can get bad luck at any time.

I am no hoody hugger David believe me and I don't think Nicola is either.Call me perverse if you like ,I just don't believe in baseball batting or stabbing someone for smashing a window.I would hold these people to account if it were possible,but let's keep a sense of proportion eh?

I wonder if David goes out with his face covered and a baseball bat under his coat, or a knife in his pocket?  Not the sort of person I would want to associate with. Retribution with violence does not solve anything, except to get yourself arrested, while the originator goes free.  But that said, if my life was being threatened, then I would react.  Far better to give a detailed description to the police and, let them deal with it.

Can you imagine?!!!  My work dictates compassion (which I hope I have) so I often feel torn as I know the criminal's behaviour is wrong......it's just that when you dig deeper, one can usually find the cause in childhood, which is terribly sad.  We should have compassion for such a person's childhood but punish or deter the behaviour in others.  As adults we all have choice to behave well or not.If I were in charge of the fate of criminals, I'd punish the crime and I also have very clear ideas about the perpetrator making changes in their lives, so I'd make that part of the deal/sentence.

I'm of the do unto others school of thought so going about tooled up isn't for me. That said David (Mr Wright) your second post did make me smile (Not through gritted teeth though :-)p.s. I quite like drawing.

I'm not sure judges are that out of touch - though some elite ones obviously are. Yes, you do need to be a solicitor or barrister to be eligible for judicial appointment (unless you are going to be a tribunal judge, some of whom are lay)But most barristers and solicitors in High Street or criminal or family practice will see more of the seamier side of society than anyone except police or social workers.I do hope the OP won't take this one horrid experience as a reason to move out of the area. It has got better in so many ways: possibly less crime, certainly less graffiti and more community feeling. I get the feeling Derwentwater school is much improved and Twyford too. Plus we have better transport and a brighter Churchfield Road. A couple of toerags shouldn't make us put that to one side.
