Trustworthy builder recommendations required

Anyone know of a good builder that is not only interested in large jobs?  We have some damp coming through a wall and would like an honest assessment as to whether it's a small repointing job or something more.Have had people round in the past for leaking roof to be told "you need your roof replacing" which was clearly not the case as several others said not.
