recycling

I work part time with a charity that teaches sewing to local women - SASAC. We have a lot of scap fabric that I would like to get rid of but the Acton recyling staff tell me that I can only put it in the general waste, not with the clothes and textiles.  This seems such a shame - does anyone have any suggetions or know where I could take the fabric for recycling?  Thank you

Amanda - several charity shops will take bags of 'rags' which go for recycling and for which they get a small amount of money.  I know British Heart Foundation does this, and probably most of the other charities.

I'm sure some of the local schools/nurseries would welcome this fabric for their art classes....collage etc. Seems a shame to recycle it when it could be used locally......

Sorry you have been given the wrong advice by the Acton team.  Textiles can be recycled in your green box from home.  We do ask that you put material inside a bag to make sure it remains dry. Material can also be taken to both the Greenford and Acton re-use and recycling centres or dropped off at one of the neighbourhood recycling banks.  Thanks for recycling.

Funny, that little interjection from the Council people: I put an old, torn duvet cover in my green box last week, neatly tied in a carrier bag to keep it clean and dry, and it was deliberately left behind...Yet another case of poor communication, perhaps?

What about old trainers? I put mine out tied together and they were left in the Green Box. They were collected under the old regime.

HII would be very interested in your scrap fabric. I am planning on making my own Christmas gifts this year and would use them for that - any left over I would pass on to my son's Nursery for craft activitiesThanksJo

for the fourth time in 5 weeks our cardboard (which I put separately in its own green recycle bin) has not been taken.  Everything else has been..........

I was having the same problem until I started putting it in plastic bags. It's annoying to have to do it, and if I catch them outside I will try to talk to them about it but for now that seems to be the solution.

Had a look in the back of the plastics truck which always comes round here last and half of it is for cardboard. Would be nice if the council told us about this change.

Where do we put the cardboard for recycling, plastics bag or green box?  Of course, there is always the black bag.
