Tower to be moved in Oaks Shopping Centre rethinkPosted by Michael Russell on Nov 16, 12 12:38 PM in Local AuthorityCONTROVERSIAL plans to redevelop a shopping centre have been revised again by the developer after objections from residents.The Acton Regeneration Company, still want to build a 11-storey tower as part of the scheme to transform The Oaks Shopping Centre, creating 146 apartments.But the new proposals would see the tower moved into the centre of the development so it would no longer overlook residents at the back of the centre in Churchfield Road and surrounding streets.They also plan to change the locations of windows and doors around the site and are looking at different building materials.A spokeswoman said: "Following discussions with the community and the council we have revised the plans. This responds to some of the key concerns raised during our previous consultation processes. We will continue to work with stakeholders as the plans move forward."But Sara Nathan, chairwoman of the Churchfield Community Association, said the revised plans are still not good enough.She said: "We've still got this huge great tower even if it's in the middle."She said the main problem is the developers refusal to buy out the businesses at the front of the centre which have long leases.And added: "Partial development doesn't really work. It means you need to squeeze it all into a small area. They need to bite the bullet, deal with the leases and work with the whole area."Ealing council reassured residents any changes will be consulted on.A spokeswoman said: "The planning application for the Oaks development is still pending and has not yet been determined."Meanwhile, in light of comments made about the application, the developer is currently reviewing their plans.
