Not sure when it started, but I saw a programme on BBC I think about a year ago about a very large number of forced entries in the north of England where a Euro lock barrel was snapped at the fixing screw. I have already had failed attempts to kick in my old front door, jemmy my back door, break the window in my front porch door, and attack the lock in my front porch, and more recently the front window double glazed unit had to be changed after someone threw a bottle at it.The exterior double glazed doors all have multi-point locking, and I always make sure they are fully locked. All are several years old, so I had already needed to purchase one replacement central lock (not the linked top and bottom additional bolts) and swap worn barrels to less used doors, and was not too bothered about spending a relatively small amount of money on a replacement set of barrels plus a spare together with extra keys ordered on line at the same time. There is some information on the Leeds Lock Co web site, although they will not supply on line. I purchased a set from the Barnsley Lock Co. all the same size so that they were interchangeable. As far as I know the main locks are OK, it is only the Euro style lock barrels that need to be changed. You can see where they are weak if you look at the replacements in a DIY shop. Sliding door locks usually have hook shaped bolts, and these are optional on hinged doors.
