The Oaks development"The CCA has been actively involved in the consultations on the future of The Oaks. We have hosted and facilitated public meetings with the developers at The Rocket, given them feedback, held smaller executive meetings with them and responded at some length to the formal planning applications. We have also responded to media enquiries and had some fairly trenchant quotes published.We have seen some substantial changes in the plans, which – though they are not yet as we would like them to be – are a lot better than earlier iterations. We have tried to remember at all times that the current configuration of The Oaks does very little for the area in general and Churchfield Road in particular. Some of our business members see the development as an opportunity and we are a community association, not just a residents’ association, and have to be mindful of our responsibilities to all our membership."I would like to counter the suggestion that there have been substantial changes in the plans and these plans are not any better than earlier iterations. The tower is not the main issue here. It is still a huge block of hermetically-sealed, private flats with multi-storey private parking with very little improvement in the retail provision and NO provision for the community (cinema etc). There is also no 24 hour route through the development from Churchfield Road to the High Street. Also, the development is only a a business opportunity if customers can be encouraged to come to Acton central to spend money. If the business community is going to count on the arrival of 270 new residents ( the maximum number of resident places in the development) they will be sadly disappointed. Those 270 people are likely to go to Shepherd's Bush, Chiswick or Ealing to spend their money and have fun. This is an anti-business development too!
