Hanson Cement Plant "status" re their Application for Planning Permission :-

Finally, after FIVE enquiries, and a lot of pulling teeth:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I understand that my colleague xxxxxxx spoke with you towards the beginning of this month advising that an enforcement officer would return your call that week.  I can only apologise for our failure to return that call and provide you with your requested information. I can however advise you that an officer spoke with an operative at Hanson yesterday and I can confirm that Hanson have decided not to appeal against the refused lawful development certificate application and have instead drawn up two planning applications. I am advised that these applications will be submitted next week. I understand that one application will seek retention of the plant and machinery and the second application will be a Lawful Development Certificate for the use of the site in relation to the adjoining Crossrail development site. I hope that this information is of assistance and would again like to apologise for the delay in this information being provided to you. I am no legal expert, however if you are going about your daily business and you want to photograph the plant, or anything else within the Estate, then that would be lawful and legitimate. I'm happy to be corrected on this if am wrong.And in this case, just what have Hansons got to hide anyway?"challenged twice" - if the manner was in any way, even slightly, threatening or intimidating, I recommend that anyone telephones 999 immediately and report the "threatening behaviour" - and important to have evidence of the perpetrator on your phone/camera.If anyone tries to take the phone/camera off you I would think that this is attempted robbery/robbery, and definitely 999able.I note that one of the photos is taken from outside the Japanese Nursery, who sublet during the day from The Shamrock Club. Have to wonder what sort of "caring" Council allows a Nursery full of very young, vulnerable lungs to be sited adjacent to a commercial Cement Plant!? A Council with the track record of "caring" about the Horn Lane Pollution I suppose.

There was no threatening behaviour.  Just told them I was doing an architectural project on landscape angles.  That appeared to do the trick, although it makes you wonder if there is anything to hide.Check out the rest of the photos on SHLAP.

I often have a camera aimed my way when I'm working with "celebs" or people on TV, so I'm cautious and will almost always challenge anyone with a camera who looks professional during those moments we're not working and trying to just relax.  I do so politely and explain the "celeb" is having a break or whatever.  So I fully understand anyone challenging anyone who may look professional holding a camera!Good photos.Rosco....has anyone explained to the Japanese nursery exactly what's next to them?  Perhaps they are ignorant of it.  Or, perhaps they do know and it would ruin business.  Not a good thought, wouldn't want to close them down as it's not their fault at all.  How depressing.

I'm sure the Japanese Nursery is very aware of what is looming right over them.They are, as is generally accepted, a very polite race, particularly when in someone else's country, so I would think not likely to raise a fuss.

As the existing plant would have been in existance long before the nursery I suspect it is the nursery who are at fault for setting up in this location. Not sure whether the planning authority are able to reject a change of use (to a nursery) on the grounds of a pre existing legal neighbouring use.I am not posting this in support of Hanson, just to point out that the planning position might not be as simple, and responsibility apportioned, as others have suggested......

But, was the Shamrock club and sports field there before the industrial site? The fact that there is a sports field within metres of Hansons and, Yeoman Aggregates would suggest pollution is rife.  Children playing there will be breathing in everything from the whole site.The planning application has got to be opposed.  Not that you can rely on the council to do the right thing.
