Amazing website all the Blitz Bombs on London

Thanks for this Bob. It is really interesting to see where the bombs fell and a useful source of information for us 'historians' who get asked questions about where the bombs fell in Acton.I was surprised by number that fell near to my childhood home in Surrey too - not sure what was there to make it such a target!

Fascinating and productive use of open licence mapping software to illustrate a point, I love this kind of thing.But I am not sure this map is complete yet as it apparently differs from the contemporary damage reports, copies of which are  in Acton and Ealing libraries and which I noted down  for the “Shalimar” estate .From these I can see that the Hereford Road hits are given but I cannot see others, notably the destruction of 153 Horn Lane (on 2 separate occasions) and 2-12 Shalimar Gardens (flats), where Shalimar Lodge now stands  . It might well be that they are aggregating on a postcode or location for the whole period of the blitz rather than specific events.

Fascinating website - spent far too long on it this morning...Shall certainly use it at school - together with info in local libraries, bearing in mind the caveats about accuracy.Did notice large clusters on some parks and cemetaries

I noticed clusters on parks - including quite a few on Gunnersbury Park.I once heard that decoys were set up in parks - incl Hampstead Heath - to try and get the Germans to drop their bombs on empty ground.Don't know if there is any truth to this?

Maybe they were where searchlights and ack ack guns could be sited - as in Hyde Park
