What is that banging?

right now 1am, somewhere in West acton. VerY loud metallic banging. Is it engineering work on tube line?

It started around 12.30am with what sounded like metal dustbin lids banging loudly together outside my house in West Acton and then a contant banging noise well into the wee small hours......My dogs were going mad !!Earlier in the evening, hubby saw a very large piece of mechanical equipment arriving at the side of Acton central Station holding up the traffic for quite a while whilst it manouevered onto the tracks.......Sounds like it was this.

It was at Acton Main Line - sounded like pile driving. So they have started work at last. Could be years of disruption I suppose.
