Planned engineering work on the District & Piccadilly lines 9/10 February

To provide a smoother more comfortable ride and to improve track drainage, which prevents signal failures caused by flooding, TfL are replacing track and ballast on the adjacent District and Piccadilly line tracks between Turnham Green and Stamford Brook. This means there is no Piccadilly line service between Hammersmith and Northfields/ Uxbridge and no District line service between West Kensington and Ealing Broadway/Richmond this weekend 9/10 February.Customers from the Acton area who wish to travel to Heathrow this weekend are advised to get the E3 to Northfields or replacement bus service A from Acton Town to Northfields. The replacement buses for this closure are:Service A: Northfields - Ealing Broadway - Ealing Common - Acton Town - Gunnersbury - Chiswick Park - Turnham Green - Stamford Brook - Ravenscourt Park - HammersmithService B: Ealing Broadway - Boston ManorService C: Boston Manor - HammersmithService D: Richmond - Kew Gardens - Gunnersbury - Chiswick Park - Turnham Green -Stamford Brook - Ravenscourt Park - HammersmithService E: Acton Town - Ealing Common - North Ealing - Hanger Lane (for Park Royal and the Central line) - Alperton - Sudbury Town - Sudbury Hill - South Harrow - Rayners Lane.The London Overground service is also suspended between Richmond and Willesden Junction. Replacement buses operate and customers from the Acton area can use the 266 bus to connect with the Lodon Overground at Willesden Junction.

Why do you suspend BOTH the overground AND District/Piccadilly line on the same weekend. It's just daft and really isolating.Why not alternate weekends instead?

If works on LU are going to close the District line to Richmond - which would in turn suspend the Overground as they share the tracks - it makes sense to synergise works with Network Rail (who this weekend are carrying out cabling between Willesden Juction and Gunnersbury.) Freight trains carrying in the replacement track, ballast and other equipment are coming in from Richmond.

But from Acton Central you can go south to Richmond - or North to Willesden Junction and West Hampstead thereby giving access to Bakerloo and Jubilee lines. I understand that you might want to cease access to the District Line at it won't be running anyhow - but Northbound? Just daft. And very inhibiting.

As I understand it the work that Network Rail is doing requires a closure from Willesden Junction to Richmond on the London Overground route. TfL have piggybacked on this closure to avoid two seperate closures of the Richmond branch. A replacement bus is operating from Acton to Willesden Junction and there is the 266 bus.

According to the TfL website, the District Line is NOT closed on the Richmond branch, so this is just poor planning. Call me cynical but it's also not uncommon for the Overground to be closed the same time as the Central line, leaving a lot of Acton cut off.Passengers would be less cynical if TfL and Network Rail gave us more information about what they were doing, otherwise we just see closures and no improvements to services. No matter how much work is done in the District line it NEVER gets any better!

The TfL website does say it is closed!It says on the weekend 'tab' for the District Line......"Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 February, no service between West Kensington and Ealing Broadway / Richmond. Rail replacement buses operate."I know engineering work can be a nuisance, but 'a lot of Acton' is hardly 'cut off', there are enough buses, even on a Sunday!

Pictures, 1000 words, etc.  I looked at the map."engineering work can be a nuisance, but 'a lot of Acton' is hardly 'cut off'"I was talking about the times when both the Overground and Central line are out of action - 5 of Acton's 7 stations out of use, leaving Acton Town the only real station and that's a 30 minute walk for me, which is no good. Not everyone lives in the nice part of town.  That's when it's a nuisance and poor planning on TfL/Network Rail's part.

Not sure where you live, but there are very few areas of Acton that don't have a bus service somewhere near them...266, E3, 440, 427, 207, 607, 70. I think all the Acton stations have a bus stop quite near them - probably South Acton is the furthest from a bus stop! Sorry you think that the buses are only in the 'nice' part of town!

I find buses slow and unpredictable compared to tube/overground.
