1st empty larger cans now vomit

Has anyone else noticed the vomit on the streets .. Just cleaned up some on the corner of Baldwin Gardens next to the usual stack of empty larger cans ? This is he 3rd vomit this week albeit in different streets .Maybe we've come down witha plague in the area. !!!

Perryn Road seems to be under siege currently with the dog mess that has magically reappeared after a very welcome absence. I feel so sorry for the poor person that inevitably steps in it. What's the answer? More dog mess bins?On the spot fines?

I almost threw up this morning at what had been left on the footbridge on Perryn Road. It seems to be everywhere and my youngest almost fell in some the other day. I think all dogs should be registered and the poop DNA tested and the owners get a big fat fine. That's if it is dog mess.

Lack of responsible parenting, I think that's where it al starts.  This is the root cause of many of our social problems today, be it dog poop, drugs or thieving.  I think it's too late for many individuals but I reckon we can intervene and break the cycle with their children.  It must be done in our schools - not that our teachers are responsible for putting society "right" - but they are the next best thing.  Extra resources and measurers should be onsite in our schools, already in place to spot those children who come from homes where parenting is dubious and give some kind of reparenting help to the parents (if they are open for it, which I doubt) and more importantly, help the children achieve a responsible adulthood and break the cycle of their own parents.(Note to self:  step off soapbox, end of rant.)

There was loads of dog poo down Berrymead Gardens this mornining as well as a nice deposit of sick outside Superdrug. I am really getting cheased off with the dog poos as I go out jogging and have to keep an eye on the ground all the time in case i tred in the mess.

It doesn't seem to be a problem in other areas of London - just Acton It the lack of responsible owners in the area - suggest more signs say fines andteh rest of us challenge people if we see their dogs messing We do seem to have more socially irresponsile people in the area than most Compare Chiswick or Richmond and you'll find less poo

It CAN'T just be Acton...just not plausible.There's a programme about people fighting back against litterers on BBC1 late tomorrow evening. I think it features dog poo...

I noticed Perryn Road lately too.  I don't think on the spot fines will work as the owners will know they'll never be seen by anyone who can enforce it.

I think it's that ownership (responsibility) is key here.  Perhaps more people own their properties in Chiswick and Richmond and that's why?

I live on Berrymead and I'm seeing the same couple of people letting their dogs mess the pavement.Last week I asked one of them to pick it up and was hurled loads of abuse.

I am also in Berrymead so will keep a look out next time I am out running. I have not seen the dogs doing their buisness just their left deposits!! Still it's really enoying and has been on the increase lately.

"It doesn't seem to be a problem in other areas of London - just Acton"Oh Peter, please give it up and stop rubbishing the area!In the great scheme of things, compared to a lot of places in London, Acton doesn't have any problems.  I hardly think, out of the whole of London, Acton is worst for dog mess.. that's a ridiculous thing to say.  Yes there's a bit of a problem, but I've seen a lot worse areas.  Maybe you don't get out much?  ;-)

I think Peter has a point, why are there seemingly no drug, alcohol and mental health services dealing with the drinkers round Morrisons and other places? Where are the homeless outreach services to minimise rough sleeping in Acton, where are the services to promote and develop community cohesion instead of all our different communities living separate parallel lives?where are the enforcement services with a zero tolerance to anti social behaviour. Now maybe there is much work that goes on behind the scenes I'm not aware of, but Acton could be a better, less edgy place and we should strive for it.

Gareth, agreed.  But with Council/Police cutbacks work of this type is put on the back burner I'm afraid.

I thought one of the local complaints has always been that there is too much help locally for homeless people, attracting them to Acton… Emmaus House and the Damien Centre have been operating for many years, offering a hot meal at lunchtimes and many other services. St Mary’s Church operates a weekly drop-in in the church hall and, in addition, is currently part of the Ealing Churches Winter Night Shelter scheme in which a dozen local churches offer homeless people a bed for the night, food and access to other services during January and February.  Short of having an outreach worker on every street corner, I can’t see what more we in Acton can do. Support for the homeless requires money and volunteers. If what we are already doing is not enough, perhaps it’s because some people are difficult to help. But the help, despite limitations dictated by resources, is certainly there.

I also agree, Gareth.  My point is that Acton is no way the worst place in London as Peter seems to think it is.  To me, he comes across as very bitter that he can't afford to live in Chiswick or Richmond.We can strive to improve the area and, believe me it's come on leaps and bounds as to what it once was, but continually bashing it and comparing it to Chiswick and Richmond is pointless. In fact, if anyone thinking of moving to Acton reads Peter's posts, they'd not come anywhere near it.

I can afford to live in Chiswick or Richmond . In fact moved from Kew . Bitter yes beacuse the area is dirtier / more dog mess / more issues than the surrounding areas and I regret my decision. I do get around and spend a lot of time in Islington which has a huge social mix . Look around there and very litte if any dog mess .Keen like you to strive to improve the area

Peter, I too am very disappointed with some of the people who live or pass through Acton and how they neglect or mistreat it.  It's good to have a good moan about it now and again, or constantly, but I also believe one should get out there and do something about it.  Can I ask what you're doing, perhaps?  For example, (and yes Colin Carroll, I am brushing my halo again, being the angel I am), I litterpick my street and sometimes the surrounding streets, I email the Council complaining if things aren't collected or swept away, broken lights, holes in roads or pavements, graffiti to be removed, etc.  I complain to my local Councillors (as frustrating as that is right now) and sign all kinds of petitions where I can.  If I could, I'd arrest those that fowl and litter (I have asked that they retrieve dumped litter and put it in the bin before now).  Yes, we shouldn't have to do all of this and it would be great if we didn't have to and lived in a clean, pretty place but we don't.  It's never going to be Kew, unfortunately, but it could be better, if we make it better.

I like you pick up the cans and bottles , washed the vomit away and will challenge those whose dogs mess or create anti social issues Good to have a moan to highlight the issue but can't moan unless doing something active to stop it We can only make it better ourselves

As long as Acton is used as a dumping ground for Ealing council to dump all there social housing clients, and we have the mega Buy to Let explosion that has happened in Acton in the last 10 years, this will always happen as we become a transient part of Ealing with no real communites been given a chance to flourish. I blame Ealing Council and Absentee landlords for the vomit and dog crap we find our streets paved with. I have lived in Acton for 25 years and have seen the changes and no changes for the better unfortunatley.

I don't think the Buy To Let scourge is particularly concentrated in Acton. It has desecrated communities London and possibly country wide.

I've lived here 25 years too - and think it's mostly better not worse...and the ways that its worse are at least London-wide and certainly not specific to this little patch.Other areas have as much anti-social behaviour, more grafitti (I've never measured poo quantities) and rather less community.
