Andy - it's your house, yes, and you can do what you wish within limits, I suppose. However, if your sitter (although I do feel she's a renter) had decided that her plans had changed and she was leaving your flat unoccupied (and unpaid for), how would you feel? An agreement is an agreement. There are lessons to be learnt here......I would always put something like this in writing and tighten it up as this would make it clear for both parties and protect both parties. I think the onus is on you, as Tony and Jen say, to make this work for both parties. I think you're being unreasonable to ask a sitter (who is paying for the privilege) to move out one month early......unless, of course, you had that as a clause in your written agreement, which you didn't have!
