John, you're comment about psychotherapists is unfounded and frankly, as fear-based as many other comments on this thread. Whilst we're at it, let's group as many sections of people together and generalise. Oh, there's a law against that, in some cases. As a Christian myself, I have been to many churches and tasted many faiths. I went to the Acton Spiritualist church and found it, as some have said, peaceful, warm and spiritual. No-one forced anything on us, no-one stood at the door trying to make sure we came back next week or donated. We sang hymns and prayers were said. The people were genuine and I'm a good judge of character in the main, I'd say. Many comments on here are fear-based or ignorance-based. I am sure there are many frauds out there, but this church wasn't for profit. Christians believe there is life after death - Jesus taught us that, so I'm always baffled as to why spiritualism would be so removed from Christianity. Just my opinion. I found it a lovely experience and went there for many weeks, on and off, but got busy on Wednesdays so stopped going. I'm always baffled too by those who say "if it's not measureable, it doesn't exist". Er, ok.
